I love my country so much. Rip Nathan Cirillo.
I firmly believe that the intent of this attack on Canada has backfired completely. Instead of dividing us, it has brought Canadians together in a way that very few things have ever done.
We will remain the true north strong and free. We will carry on.
Just going to take a moment to show this picture which has nearly brought me to tears.
On Wednesday, in my country’s capitol city, a soldier standing on guard at the National War Memorial, just outside the Canadian Parliament, was shot and killed in an act of terrorism. Cpl Nathan Cirillo was only 24 years old.
This photo is of the procession to bring his body back to his hometown. On nearly every overpass and bridge along the way, people have come to wave flags, salute, and honour him and those who serve our country. The outpouring of love right now is beyond amazing and I could not be more proud to be a Canadian and to see my country and it’s citizens showing so much courage and respect in the face of such a tragedy.
What happened in Ottawa is seriously so heart breaking fuck, our entire country is shocked and mourning, you never really think much of it until it hits home 😩😫😥
Frankly, I'm quite disappointed that more people on here aren't talking about what happened in canada yesterday.
OOC: So, there was a terrorist attack in Ottawa today, a solider standing guard at the war memorial was shot, and he died not too soon afterwards. The man who shot him then went to parliament hall and started shooting around the building. He was shot and killed by the Sargeant-at-arms, Kevin Vickers. As far as I know, downtown Ottawa is still in lockdown. ISIS is claiming responsibility for this attack. As a Canadian citizen, these events have left me shaken. I knew that Canada wasn’t immune to this sort of thing, though that doesn’t decrease the shock. And though I’m shocked, and admittedly scared, I won’t be afraid, because if I am, that means that the terrorist attack did what it set out to do, make people afraid. My heart goes out to the family of our fallen solider, Nathan Cirillo, and the citizens of Ottawa. R.I.P Nathan Cirillo, a man taken before his time, we will remember you.
I am devastated by the events happening in my country today. I don't have much to say about it, so if you want to learn specifics, please go to the "Ottawa" tag. I will say this, though. Terrorism and Islam are not the same. Terrorists are not Muslim. Terrorists are terrorists. There is no race or religion that defines someone as a terrorist. Regardless of the man's affiliations, he does not represent a religion or a race.
