What a bummer. I didn't know right away, but found out today. R.I.P. Boris the Goose. One of my all time favorite movies as a child. #Balto #RIPBobHoskins #BobHoskins
RIP Bob Hoskins
Several years ago, I had the chance to be around Bob Hoskins for a day when a movie was shot at my grandfather’s country store in Arkansas. I got to hang out on set, and I remember Hoskins well. The sad news of his death today made me think of my impressions from that brief brush. Eyes brimming with amusement, he seemed to take an impish pleasure in everything going on around him, although never in a snarky or condescending way — and, believe me, that would’ve been easy with so many of us silly, starstruck locals clamoring so close at hand. Also impressive to me: the perfect ease with which he alternated between his natural British lilt and the Southern drawl his part called for. Although short in stature — he looked a bit like a Jawa in the brown monk’s robe he had to wear for his role — he was hardly small in presence. And as he came and went throughout the day, he kept up a merry running banter with cast and crew. The movie — a straight-to-late-night-pay-cable catastrophe called the White River Kid — wouldn't turn out so well. But even so, Mr. Hoskins was one of the bright spots, and a delight to watch at work and at play.
Kill 'em with laughter, Bob.
