After the death of Murkcheep there still hasn’t been a chosen Second Star for Carrionclan and Calamitystar is getting more and more protective as of late. Her already aggressive nature becoming more bloodthirsty seeking out dangerous life taking situations.
Previous update included the death of Murkcheep (first deputy, mate of Siphonsnap), training and naming of Thawingflower (cleric), Trillchirp, and Songsplash. Trillchirp and Thawingflower became partners. The kittens are made trainees with Cinnamonpaw to Calamitystar and Picklepaw to Muddymight.
Moons 5-10
Cinnamonpaw and Picklepaw are bickering more. While Muddymight wants to fix it Calamitystar seems to find it very amusing. Either way the two siblings are sent to Iceyfright to fix whatever is going on between them and end up closer, acting more as siblings.
Siphonsnap is collecting more and more herbs to make sure the clan is all good for Autumn. She does miss Thawingflower a tad but can’t help but purr at seeing her trainee all clumsy over Trillchirp.
Songsplash managed to wait with the patience her teacher had taught her and snagged a huge chunk of deer meet from a carcass right under a coyotes pairs paws!
While out on yet another stroll together Trillchirp and Thawingflower end up finding a little black kitten with a collar around its neck. They bring the scrap back to camp and the two clerics are able to heal it’s chest infection and nicks. It is named Leechkit and the young couple raise it together.
Little Leechkit becomes more and more of a troublemaker as it grows up often sneaking out to see outside, nabbing prey from the pile, and hiding items for others to find. It was out on one of these escapes that the small scamp bumped into a waiting tom. The ginger patched cat said his name was Ripple and that he was looking for a group of cats he’d heard rumors about. With Leechkit’s instructions the strange cat helped the kitten back to camp.
There he let the kitten go to its parents and introduced himself. He was a regular stray who’d had a few… let’s say strange dreams all his life but had a very urgent one about this group of cats. Something about a snake that would crawl in a take. A few cats were a bit more unsure of him but Siphonsnap wanted him in, if he was a Seeing star like he seemed to be he would be very useful especially as they had none after Bloodeyes passed.
Calamitystar agreed and let him in naming him Ripplepatch for his ginger patched pelt. He soon settled in with the clerics and hit it off with Siphon, the two being confident stubborn cats they grew close fast. And Thaw liked him for his good heart especially after he brought Leechkit back safe.
It’s soon discovered that Ripplepatch has a stronger connection to the dead and is getting brief dreams of snakes slithering into camp. While Siphon isn’t sure Calamitystar takes it as a sign to better protect the camp. She starts going out on lone patrols and coming back with nicks, no one asks but Iceyfright brushes it off as her own may of grieving even if it’s a bit strange. The old mediator tries to get through to her wife a bit but Calamitystar doesn’t want to listen.
Cinnamonpaw tries to show up to her mentor and sneaks under a fox while it’s scavenging! Luckily for her it had already feasted all it wanted so when she puffed up it went away. She ended up bringing back large slivers of venison for the whole clan. The look on her brother’s face made it worth it.
Picklepaw, upset over his sisters clearly unmeasured actions and bragging decided he’d show the clan he was just as good as her! Just as she tried to sneak some food under a fox he went after a wolf. Picklepaw never knew they were so big and scary, he barely felt as it breathed down his back. Turning around and freezing as he knew it would all go away. Muddymight screeched and tackled the wolf away from her apprentice, though she was smart and knew she couldn’t take down even a starving one. The two fled and Picklepaw spent a few days at the cleric’s quarters for shock.
The two siblings made up after Picklepaw was released from the clerics and grew closer, Cinnamonpaw hated how he was gone and would never say she wished he would leave again.
Feeling like the two learned a lot Calamitystar gives them their names, Cinnamonscreech and Picklepunch.
Along with the young cats being named Calamitystar decides that the little black kitten is big enough to be a trainee, even if it’s not entirely 6 moons old. Leechkit is made Leechpaw and given to Muddymight to train.
Trillchirp and Thawingflower are upset over their kitten being made a trainee too early but keep it down. Trill promises he’ll watch over Leechpaw, even if he’s not it’s mentor. This eases Thaw a bit but she’s still unnerved by Calamitystar’s recent actions, maybe the old cat isn’t as sound as she used to be?
As Leechpaw scraped together some moss from the walls for Iceyfright it gets lost in thought, thinking of what it’ll catch on its first day out! Or maybe if it could go find some frogs. It barely notices as a snake falls out of its nest and slithers forward, it’s scales like silver and patterns reflecting light in a unnatural way. Just as it bares up to strike Leechpaw, Trillchirp flashes across the camp and takes the bite, not even thinking of the danger it caused him if it meant saving his kit.
Leechpaw jumps back and pulls the snake from its dad’s shoulder, biting its head to kill it as the rest of Carrionclan runs to their side. Thawingflower quickly pulls his partner to her side and starts cleaning the wound but Siphonsnap pulls him away to treat Trill.
After a few days of recovering and healing Trillchirp makes it! The whole family is relieved and are tighter after. Leechpaw gets a fear of snakes, it’s nightmares filled with the image of it striking its dad.
As the clan tried to get extra food since they were down a cat, on a patrol trying to nab some fish and frogs Cinnamonscreech and Songsplash grow closer.
While out searching for some cobwebs to help it’s dad Leechpaw meets a cat just… sitting at the border. The silver tabby introduces themselves as Medusa, and says that ghosts brought him to the clan. Leech is put off but it can’t just turn the tom around so it brings him back to camp.
Medusa walks in and immediately goes to Calamitystar. Just a few minutes later both cats come out and Medusa is announced as part of them, being named Medusafang.
Ripplepatch feels unsure about this new cat. Especially with his own strange dreams about snakes weighing on his mind.
Iceyfright gets a little cold and it ends up spreading to Calamitystar and Songsplash. Luckily all three cats get over their illness.
At last after moons of having no second star Calamity decides Muddymight will be her temporary successor, that is until her main interest proves they’ll fit the role… a few cats worry as everyone knows Calamitystar is getting closer to death and Muddymight isn’t a spring sprout herself. One cat in particular seems to want power more than anyone else.
