I wish I spent more time learning Russian—so far I can only decipher Cyrillic characters—so I could speak to the awesome pixel artist Evgeniy ‘Mazok Pixels’ Yudin. You might remember him for his (and animator Misha Petrick’s) Mad Max Fury Road animated illustrations.
You can understand why I was excited for this interview. Both of them are working on Smash Bash: Date with the Desert, demo of which you can download right now or even play in the browser.
Most of Rising Wave’s team from Moscow did speak English though, so I didn’t have to embarrass myself before my tovarishi (and I played co-op with Mazok, so life was great). Smash Bash is a twin-stick shooter with a bit of a wild setting, namely World War 1, but some people are animals and the enemies are zombies. I know, right? Fairy tale Walking Dead in 1912.
There’ll be more details to reveal in the future, especially since the game’s map will be a big procedurally-generated open world. But you’ll just have to wait for me to learn Russian and can read more things from their VK profile.
