the whole movie they’re right on the edge of something really compelling with confronting the loss of robin and the guilt and the trauma finney must live with especially seeing robin’s face in his sister’s new boyfriend as a constant reminder of how he couldn’t save robin and finney taking robin’s advice to stand up for himself too far and gwen telling him that he has no friends and finney disliking ernie for no real reason and gwen confronting him with the fact that robin would’ve wanted finney to care for his brother and they just skate right past it like the grabber on a frozen lake

they really should’ve used miguel mora being robin and ernie to their advantage. having finney tormented every time he looked at ernie, while he’s stuck sharing a room with him, would’ve really helped to build up his break down and the catharsis of robin saying hello at the end. all we get is finney being mistrustful of ernie which I don’t even see a clear motive for and I wish he’d been more direct about it. if he’d disliked ernie because of his resemblance to robin, they should’ve made that explicit, rather than something that they clearly wanted to do but didn’t actually achieve with a single shot or line of dialogue.
