\\Simple Machining// - Some of the most important parts on a frame are the simplest ones to make. The parts shown being machined here are the seat collars that we use to butt our seat tubes. Machined from 4130 tubing, these allow us to have more material supporting the seatpost in a high-stress area. Restoration of Valuable Tools

While the lathe itself is in excellent condition, the wiring needed a little help. A little bit of elbow grease and 12ft of wires later, and she’s up and running again. It’s fantastic to be able to work on a machine that has been designed to be rebuilt. Now it’s running nice and smooth and should do so for another 70 years from now.

The Lathe at the Core of the Shop

Lathes are the core of any fabrication shop due to their ability to create many of the parts and pieces essential in frame building. Recently, I was able to purchase a Rivett 608 lathe locally to start the core of my mini shop. Built in 1944 for the Navy, this lathe has seen a few years and many parts produced with it. It’s difficult to find tools of this size with this level of quality and I am glad to have had the opportunity to bring this beautiful example of craftsmanship into my own shop.
