Inari would never understand.
“Boy” or “girl,” having a chest versus not having one, what parts a human body was composed of...and most of all the sterotypes that came with being one or the other.
What did it matter? Humans were all the same creatures, what difference did the shape of their bodies make? Why it mattered in choosing a partner? As far as Inari knew, heteronormativity only made sense for reproduction purposes.
And most of all, Inari had gotten so tired of explaining that Vixeni had no concept of gender--so tired that there wasn’t much use in stopping anyone from referring to them as “mister” or “miss.” Not that it bothered them that much anyway--they just hoped they wouldn’t be expected to follow traditional gender roles. Inari fell into neither category.
