'Ballers': The Rock and Rob Corddry Get Their Party On in a New Trailer
Between Furious 7 and San Andreas, this is shaping up to be the summer of The Rock. And Dwayne Johnson will continue his warm weather domination when his new HBO series, Ballers, launches on June 21. The pro-wrestler-turned-actor draws on his pigskin past to play Spencer Strasmore, an ex-football player who has remade himself as a financial advisor to the men he used to tackle on the field on any given Sunday. This just-released Ballers trailer reveals more details about Spencer’s conflicted feelings about his new career, specifically the way it will require him to “monetize his friendships.”

The trailer also features more footage of Rob Corddry as Spencer’s party-hearty work colleague, Joe, who expects big things from his newest hire. On-screen, the duo occasionally butt heads, but off-screen they got along famously. “Dwayne lives up to his sterling reputation as a tireless worker and all-around good guy,” Corddry tells Yahoo TV. “He’s a genuine person and I look up to him, literally and figuratively.” Of course, it’s hard not to have a good time when you’re hanging out with The Rock in Miami, shooting a party sequence aboard a deluxe boat. “That boat party was a lot of fun,” Corddry confirms. “There were hundreds of local extras who were some of the coolest people I got to meet in Miami. It was also one of the rare times that the entire cast was shooting together. The only thing I don’t like about doing this show is how little time I get with some of these guys.”
Ballers premieres June 21 at 10 p.m. on HBO.
