Blurb : Professor Reynolds x mature student reader
Reader is in their late 20s and Bob is in his early 30s. This is my first fanfic; was inspired by another one I was reading (liked the premise)

The corner of the desk etched into your skin, Roberts hips digging deeper. It was past curfew, and you both knew this wouldn't end well. He was your professor, and despite being five years apart the university wouldn't take the matter kindly if your secret rendezvous was uncovered. So you snuck around, secret kisses in empty lecture halls, soft fingering in his office, and sweet whimpers leaving his lips as he pushed inside you, pants lowered, the corner of his desk digging into your skin, and his hips pushing you closer.

Soft and Warm Headcannons for Bob R (Sentry x Reader)
Bob loves when you rub his abs
Touches are definitely a love language of his but when you rub his belly he's extra sensitive
He'll start turning bright pink and purring like a cat
Sometimes his toes will curl when he lays down
But he loves more than anything when he's hunched over a counter and your hands slip up his shirt, your fingers gently tracing soft little circles around his bellybutton
He loves when you feel him up while you've been sitting in the corner reading
He'll very gently kiss each of your fingers and knuckles before your wrist
And then both of your cheeks
Because he'll go to any lengths to show you he loves you
Bob Reynolds who's been watching how Valentina treats you. You're a Thunderbolt. The only one on the team that is not enhanced at all. You dont even fight, you're just a damn good spy and a near perfect shot. Valentina always puts you in the back of public meetings. Puts you on the edge of the table furthest from the camera. Where most of the team including himself had a pretty solid fan base, you only had a few stragglers.
Bob knew it hurt you, even if you didnt say it.
The two of you weren't close. The most the two of you ever interacted was him helping you make dinner, which you did almost every night.
About 3 weeks ago, Bob saw Valentina start pulling you aside to have a hushed conversation. Over and over and over. Every single time you walked away lookef a bit more unnerved than the last time. He had no idea what these conversations were about. Valentina wouldn't tell him, and no one else on the team knew.
One late night, Bob awoke with a start. He had awoken from a terrifyingly vivid nightmare that you had gotten the Sentry powers.
He rushed to your room, ignoring how early it was. He knocked on your door frantically.
You opened the door in pajamas. "You doin' okay Bobert?" You grumbled, flicking your lights on.
"Yeah-...fine. Just wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Okay from what? You wanna come in?" You stepped out of the doorway, allowing Bob to step in.
Your room was dimly lit, with shelves and shelves of cookbooks and gun manuals. Odd combo, then again so was the power of 1000 suns and the endless void. You sat cross legged on your bed."Whats up?"
"Dunno, just had a bad dream."
"You wanna talk bout it?" You didnt seem the least bit bothered by the god that sat on your bed.
"I had a dream that you became a sentry." The second the words left his mouth, your eyes dated to your desk.Bob's eye followed.
"Bob wait-"
It was a little vial with a syringe next to it. The vial was simply titled 'Sentry Syrum Batch #8942'
"What the fuck is this." Bob snarled.
"Valentina gave it to me."
"For what?"
"So I could-...be enhanced like the rest of you."
"Are you kidding me?! Do you know what this did to me?!" Bob exclaimed, in his peripheral, he saw black crawling up his fingers. He tried to will the anger away.
"Its a safer batch. Its been tested." You mumbled.
"Tested on who?! People like me?!"
"Bob, Im sorry for what happened to you, I truly am, but you dont know what its like to not-"
"Not be special? You dont need these fucking chemicals to make you stronger or whatever! You're already strong!"
"But im not enhanced."
"Well maybe that's a good thing! No one on this team got enhancements in the right state of mind. You dont know how much of yourself you life until you do this!" The black was almost to his forearms. You saw it too.
"Bob, you can't make this choice for me."
"If you do this...I dont think I'll be able to forgive you." Bob walked out.
ᨳଓ he’s so shy and needy. when you come home from work you see he’s been waiting for you. already made your favourite meal and put the heater on. and of course he doesn’t do it because he wants something from you, he’s genuinely in love and obsessed. he’ll make sure you enjoy everything and then ask to lie with you on the couch, arms wrapped around each other and his breath on your neck. sure he seems innocent, but he knows his way around your skin. all he wants is to please you, eat you out however you like, sleep inside you when you feel empty, suck on your skin when it lacks colour. sometimes his eyes get watery when he looks at you, completely taken aback by the woman who stayed. he cried when you guys had sex for the first time, in awe that he could be inside you so intimately. he took his time to learn everything you liked and didn’t. asking to watch you touch yourself so he could imitate it when your hands get tired. you’d wake up with his head between your legs, an apology leaving his mouth when he notices you’ve woken. but when your hand guides his head back between them, he listens. when you’re gone he feels guilty touching himself to the thought of you, until you call him on facetime and let him watch the way your pussy throbs. when you’re back, he buries himself inside of you and begs you to stay like that the whole day. his eyes pleading and cock pulsing. you can’t deny a man with eyes like that, so you spread your legs for him to get deeper.
he has really bad day and is reminded of his past so she comforts him? Please I have cuteness aggression thinking abt him

A/N: Thank you for the request! I hope you enjoy! Also it took me this long to notice that my ao3 link section had the word here in it twice lol, it will be fixed from this post onwards.
You know your boyfriend isn’t having a good day.
You’ve known since you woke up. The first thing that tipped you off that something was off was that he woke up after you. You had come down to the kitchen to see that he wasn’t there. Ava was there. Bucky and John were there. Even Alexei was there. But Bob wasn’t. That was weird. Bucky and John being up before you? That was normal. They were military boys, they’re used to getting up early. But you? You were one of the latest risers in the tower. Him being up later than you is like a cold day in hell: it doesn’t happen.
When he does wake up and finally leaves his room to join the rest of you, his mood is beyond down. He’s quieter than normal, and he keeps spacing out during lulls in conversation. He also keeps doing this where he messes with his fingers in a very specific way that he does when he’s sad or stressed.
Maybe that’s a weird thing to notice. Maybe it’s kinda weird and creepy that you watch him enough to know that. You don’t care. You’re his girlfriend, sue you. Plus, everyone in the Thunderbolts does weird shit like that. It’s not that weird if the tendencies you’ve picked up from being a spy show themselves in personal relationships, relatively speaking.
You originally tried something on the lighter end of comforting him. You didn’t know how bad it was today, and you didn’t know if he would’ve felt smothered by you or not because of an unproportionate reaction. So you tried the small things first. You sat with him on the couch. You held his hand. You tried to give him an opening to talk about it if he wanted to take it.
He doesn’t. Normally you wouldn’t pry. Normally your presence would be enough to help lift his mood, and that would be enough for you. His mood doesn’t get better though. It doesn’t worsen, exactly, but he does stew in it for longer than you would like. You’re all for letting emotions run their course, but that’s not what this is, and you know it. They aren’t running their course, they’re just… staying. And you don’t like it when they stay in your boyfriend’s mind.
So you were bringing out the big guns. If stupid emotions want to hurt your man, then you just simply have to go nuclear with your response.
You left him for just a moment on the couch, heading back to your room. He looks saddened by you leaving, but he perks up just a little when you come back with that really fuzzy blanket of yours that he loves. He watches you as you tuck it around his shoulders, swaddling him up like a little burrito. A little Bobrito, if you would.
“Babe?” His eyebrows furrow slightly. “What are you doing?”
“Taking care of you, because you clearly feel bad.” You lean down, placing a kiss on his forehead. “I’m making you something to eat, what do you want?”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I’m making you something to eat, what do you want?” You repeat.
“…I guess a sandwich would be good.”
You give him another kiss on the forehead and head into the kitchen. A sandwich is good, it’s easy to make, easy to eat. It’s quick to make too. You’ll be back to him in just a few moments. You don’t make the fanciest sandwich in the world, but you aren’t lazy with it either. It’s ham and colby jack with pickles, a favorite of Bob’s. You make sure to double the amount of cheese than you would normally put on a sandwich. You know Bob likes his sandwiches with extra cheese.
You cut it into two triangles and wrap it up in a paper towel to keep the crumbs from getting everywhere. You come back into the living room and present him with the sandwich. He takes it and starts nibbling on one half. The food will do him some good, you know that, but you want to give him something that warms his heart too.
“I’m going to go make you hot cocoa.” You tell him, slipping into the kitchen again. “I’ll be right back.”
You have to search through the cabinet to find the good hot chocolate mix. For some god unknown reason, Yelena likes this one brand that everyone else in the tower despises. And somehow, despite the fact that she’s the only one that likes that garbage, it always ends up in the front of the cabinet. You shove it aside and grab the box of the actually good hot chocolate. You mix one of the packets with water. You think it’s horrible to do, it makes the hot chocolate taste weird, but Bob prefers it to making it with milk, and this is about him.
When you’re done, it’s not the best cup of hot chocolate ever. You don’t expect it to be. It’s made in a microwave with tap water and a packaged mix. But it’s hot chocolate, and it’s hot chocolate that Bob works. You want to be able to give him the fancy kind, but this will do just fine. It’ll cheer him up and make him happy, and that’s your goal.
You bring him his hot chocolate and sit next to him on the couch. You two of you are quiet for a while. You wait for him to finish his sandwich and hot chocolate before speaking. You don’t want to interrupt him while he eats. Once he’s finished, you take one of his hands. You hold it, stroking the back of his knuckles with your thumb. You just do that for a few seconds before opening your mouth.
“…you wanna talk about it?” You prompt. You don’t need to specify what it is. You both know.
“Just… you know.” Bob starts awkwardly. “I just woke up feeling bad, and I started thinking about my dad and mom and stuff and… you know.”
“I know.” You echo back.
“And I know this happens to me a lot, and I should be able to handle it better by now-“
“Let me stop you right there.” You cut him off. You don’t like doing it, but you know where this is going. “You shouldn’t feel bad about how you respond to things like this. You’re gonna feel the way you’re gonna feel, and that’s okay.”
“…but I feel bad about bothering you with it.”
“Babe. I’ve told you this a thousand times, and I’ll tell you this a thousand more times if I have to.” You sit up and cup his face with your hands. “You aren’t bothering me with anything. I want to help you when you feel like this, because I want you to feel better. If I was feeling this way about stuff that happened to me, would you think it’s fair if I said I was bothering you if you were helping me feel better?”
“…no.” He admits after a moment.
“Then why’s it fair to say that to yourself?”
Bob thinks about it for a few moments before sighing.
“I guess… I guess it isn’t fair to say that to myself.”
“I’m happy we agree. So now that we’ve agreed that you shouldn’t feel bad about me helping you feel better, let’s actually get you feeling better. You wanna watch a movie or something?”
“Is Padington still on streaming?” Bob asks after he decides what movie he wants to watch. It’s a classic of his when he’s feeling down. You have to admit, it is a really good movie for when you’re upset.
“Uh… lemme check.” You pick the remote off of the coffee table and turn the tv on, sifting your way through the different streaming apps on that thing. “And if it’s not, I have a dvd of it. I bought one just in case.”
“You did?” He sounds surprised. You would say you don’t know why he sounds surprised, but you know that his dad is a piece of shit, so you do know why. But you’re here now, and you’re not him, so you’re going to pull out all the stops when it comes to caring for Bob and keeping the things he likes in mind.
“Yeah, man. It’s your movie, I’m gonna make sure you can keep watching it, even if every platform in the world drops it.”
“…I have the best girlfriend ever.” He leans against you, resting his head on your shoulder, his cheek squishing against it slightly.
“Only because I have the best boyfriend in the world.” You shoot back, wrapping an arm around his waist.
Summary: It all happened so fast. One minute you were checking comms, trying to get them back online as Bob hurried to grab his go bag, and the next second, the wall behind you exploded, a looming figure dressed in green and silver towering over you. Doom.
Warnings: Angst, hurt/comfort, Bob's past drug addiction, drug detox, vomiting, injuries, blood, mentions of character deaths, a comical amount of people being flung into walls, established relationship with Bob and reader, reader has no powers but has some fighting skills, inaccurate description of Doom's powers (idk I just read a bit online about him)
Word Count: 3.6k
Note: So I learned about one of Doom's powers to absorb other heroes' powers while I was researching some backstory on Doom, and I had been thinking about what would happen to Bob if he all of a sudden didn't have his powers, and this idea popped into my head! Thank you @lalalunascope for editing this for me; you are the Doom expert, and your advice on him was so great!! Anyways, enjoy!

“The comms stopped.”
Bob glanced up at you from his space on the couch. He had been waiting with you since your team, Sam's team, and the rest of the Fantastic Four left to fight Doom. It was probably stupid, leaving just you and Bob together. Someone with no powers other than the ability to wield a knife and the other with all the power but with no way to use it. But they needed as many people as they could to take him on.
That’s why this was your one job. You all knew Bob's powers put him on Doom's radar. For what, you couldn't be sure. All you knew was that he took Reed and Sue's son, and Bob was most likely his next target. When you all got the alert of another foreign object entering the atmosphere after the Fantastic Four's ship, you knew what it was. They went off to deal with it, giving you the job of keeping watch. Bob wouldn’t have stayed put anyway if you'd left.
“What do you mean they stopped?”
“I mean…” Bob got up, tilting his head to the side as he watched you try to work the tablet in your hand. It was on, but the screen that once had the team's status reports was now blank. Like the signal was cut out, but that couldn't be, not with the amount of money Valentina funneled into the New Avengers. This was all state-of-the-art tech; it took more than a simple power outage or similar to make it go dark. “It’s all gone. I was hearing Yelena just a second ago and now, nothing, just static.”
“That’s not good.”
“Nope.” Shaky. Scared. Bob didn't like hearing that from you. You were the one who always had a good head on your shoulders, the one who always knew what to do. You grabbed your earpiece, holding it closer to your mouth like it'd make a difference. “Yelena? Lena, are you there? Bucky? Reed? John? Anyone?”
Static. That was the only response you got. Goosebumps littered your skin as the static swallowed the room whole and intensified the anxiety crawling under your skin. This is wrong. So so wrong.
“Bob…” A warm hand wrapped around your shaking one. You paused, looking up at him. Those blue eyes you loved so much were so full of concern and worry. Emotions you never wanted to see etched in them ever again. “Get your go bag. We're getting out of here, now.”
Bob nodded, squeezing your hand again. “Where are we going to go? The plan was for us to stay here, out of the way and away from that guy.”
You shook your head, biting your bottom lip as you tried to think of where you could go. Everyone you knew was out there fighting. There might not be any place you could be truly safe from Victor Von Doom. “I don’t know, just – just go, I'll fire up the jets. Well, leave the state, the country, whatever. We just need to get you out of here.”
“Hey,” he stopped your pacing. Pulling you close, Bob cupped your face in his hands. He knew you were panicking, a thousand thoughts and feelings running through your head. “We'll be okay. Once we're up in the air. We’ll try to get a hold of them again – Hey baby.” He could tell your eyes were wandering, that familiar dissociative look in your eyes as you tried to block out the anxiety in your chest, one he was all too familiar with. “We are going to be fine. You understand? We'll be fine.”
You hugged him tight, burying your head in his chest as he squeezed you tight. You could feel the warmth emanating from his hands. Usually, you'd give Bob a look for using his powers when he didn't need to; the Void was still unpredictable. But now wasn't the time for that.
Giving him one last tight squeeze, you pulled away first, telling Bob to hurry while you grabbed the rest of your things. He pulled you back to him before you could, though, planting one chaste kiss to your lips, whispering one last time that it was going to be okay. When did Bob become the one with all the hope around here?
You watched him go, ignoring the pit in your stomach as you turned around, trying to fire up the jets and get comms back online all at once. But you should’ve been paying attention. Instead of being so focused on that damn tablet, you should've seen the shadow looming outside. Your instincts should've noticed that something was wrong, but no, you were too preoccupied with trying to get you and Bob out. Maybe if you weren't, then you would’ve been able to do something before the wall behind you exploded, sending you clear across the room.
Bob rushed out the second he felt the ground shake beneath his feet. He didn't care at all that he saw the ground crack underneath him or that the window shattered, sending thousands of pieces of glass all over his room. Bob only had one thing on his mind. You. Get to you. Keep you safe.
“Whoa – what the fuck –” Then he paused, his heart in his throat when he saw you. You were on your knees, covered in debris, trying to get back on your feet. “Baby!” Bob rushed to you, eyes wild with panic and concern. So much for not wanting to see that look in his eyes again. “Are you okay?! Are you hurt?”
“M’fine.” You tried to reassure him, but he stayed put, his eyes shimmering gold as he looked you over, checking for any sign of a cut, bruise, or bleeding. His entire focus was on you. Not on the lingering figure, green and silver with that mask that would haunt your dreams for years to come, made its way through the hole in the tower. Not until it was too late. “Bob! Go! Get to the jet -”
And then he was gone. Ripped out of your hands the moment you uttered his name. You blinked, and then he was in the hands of who you can only assume was Doom. The masked villain held Bob up by the collar of his shirt, a peculiar, almost amused look in his eyes as he took in the indestructible, all-powerful Sentry. Almost like he thought it was comical for all that power to be stored in this one simple, scrawny boy.
In a flash, Bob broke himself out of Doom's grip, power you hadn't seen radiating off his body since that day when the Void last came out. Bob's eyes glowed brightly, his jaw clenched as he looked at Doom. Blue eyes flickered over to you, and Bob softened before turning to face Doom, making sure to shift his stance so he was blocking you from Doom's view.
Doom chuckled, seemingly impressed by Bob's ability to get out of his grip, albeit with barely any technique in his attempt. “So, you're the infamous Sentry I've been looking for. The one with the power of a thousand suns. The one all of those ‘heroes’ died trying to protect.” Died. No... not all of them… No, no, there's no way. Was Yelena okay? Ava? Reed? Sam? Is anyone still alive? No, you couldn't think that. Not right now.
If looks could kill, Doom would be six feet under, having a date with Death right now with the glare Bob sent him. You both knew there was no talking Doom down. Reed explained what he could in the little time you had: how Doom was cunning, the smartest person in the room, and he knew it. When he set his mind to something, when he knew what he had to do, there was no stopping him. He was arrogant, but he had the right to be, given his knowledge.
Bob's fists clenched at his sides, the bright light illuminating from them growing brighter and brighter as Doom's words struck him. "What... what did you say?"
"Bob..."
"They put up a good fight. Nonsensical, really, so unnecessary. If they'd just given me what I wanted, they'd still be breathing. I told them it was futile, but still they tried... for you."
“Bob... wait, don’t -!”
Bob didn't. He tried to hold himself back, but hearing that they were gone, his family dead, just broke something in him. Doom could be lying for all you knew, but Bob wasn't thinking about that. He was thinking about them. Yelena and Ava were like the sisters he never had, always looping him into their schemes to get on Alexei or Bucky's nerves. John was the annoying older brother he never had, whose buttons he knew how to push, a familial lightness under his grumpiness.
Every punch he threw, he saw them. And every punch he threw, Doom countered. Every kick was blocked. Doom barely broke a sweat. Just lifted his finger, and it was like a force field projected out of him, protecting him. Finally, Doom had enough and flung Bob back into the other wall, knocking him unconscious.
Doom didn't even spare you a glance as he walked towards Bob, ready to take what he came here for, but you weren’t going to let him.
Acting fast, you grabbed whatever you could and hissed, dagger in hand as you hovered protectively over Bob's unconscious body, ready to fight until your last breath to keep him safe. Your knife was nothing compared to Doom's powers, but you were willing to do anything to keep your love safe.
“Foolish,” Doom uttered, “Don’t make this any harder. There should be no reason for more bloodshed.”
You practically growled at him, hatred boiling beneath your skin. “Says the one trying to kill him.”
The masked villain didn't say anything; he lifted his hand and flicked his wrist, sending you back into the rubble across the room, like you were nothing more than an annoying fly that was in his way.
The dagger fell from your grasp as your back met plaster with a sickening crack. Concrete crumbled all over you, dust filling your lungs and clouding your vision. “Bob! Ah!” You clutched your side, a sharp pain pulsing at your side with every breath you took, but you grit through it. You needed to get to him.
Your head was fuzzy, vision blurry as you tried to get up, but your body wasn't cooperating. There was nothing you could do as you watched Doom grab him, Bob looking almost lifeless as he hung there, at Doom's mercy. “Bob…”
“Finally.” Doom raised his hand to Bob's face, some kind of weapon in his hands. You tried again, using all the strength you had, yelling as you finally pulled your legs free from the rubble. But it was too late. There was a flash of white. It was so bright, it nearly blinded you. You heard a pained groan; whatever Doom was doing woke Bob up.
“No, stop! Please!” You cried harder, hearing Bob’s choked gasp, like whatever Doom was doing was sucking the life out of him. “Bob! No! Let him go, please!” You screamed and screamed, begging for Doom to stop. At his mercy. You tried to crawl on your knees, gritting your teeth as you felt rocks and glass press further into your skin when you did.
But then, the room went dark. Quiet. Eerily so. Then you heard a thud.
Doom dropped Bob to the ground, clenching his fists as he got used to the power. The brute force and intensity of a thousand exploding suns would send a normal man to their knees, but Victor Von Doom was anything but.
Exhaling in relief and finally able to complete his plan to set the universe on its rightful course, he went to leave, but not before turning and giving you a pitying look, almost like he was sorry for what he did. "For what it's worth, his sacrifice won't be in vain." And then he turned, leaving through the hole in the wall and out of your sight.
“Bob, Bob, wake up!” You shouted for him; you didn't get a response. You ran over to him, nearly falling over again because of the rocks and huge boulders littering the floor, but you didn’t care. You just had to get to him.
“Bob!” You finally reached him and pulled his body onto your lap, cradling him. He almost looked like he was sleeping, peaceful despite the dirt smudging across his cheeks and blood trickling down the side of his head. He's… bleeding? Oh my god, he’s bleeding. Bob's been invincible since you first met him in the vault over a year ago. He was gunned down before your eyes for Christ's sake, and he got up like it was nothing. And now, he’s bleeding. God, what the hell did Doom do to him?
“Bob, please! Please wake up!” But he didn’t respond. He just laid there, limp, completely motionless in your arms. You felt like someone had reached in and pulled your heart from your chest, bits of your soul leaving you every time you called his name or you tried to shake him awake, only for him to lie there. His chest wasn’t moving, and your shaking hands couldn't find a pulse. “Please, don’t leave me… not after everything.”
Not after Malaysia, when you thought you lost him to the experiments OXE put him through, or after Utah, where you fought like hell to find him again. Fought with everything you had to make sure no one else could get their hands on him to further their experiments into the serum coursing through his veins. Or was.
And then, you felt it.
A twitch.
First, it’s small. The slightest bit of movement so small you almost mistake it for the breeze from the wind. But then you saw it. His fingers moved. One, two, and then his eyebrows furrowed, like he was fighting to wake up from a dream before finally he groaned, alive.
“Bob! Bob, oh my god!” You held his face in your hands, watching with teary eyes as his face contorted in pain. He's alive, he's alive, he's alive, he's alive.
“Baby,” he whimpered, eyes still closed. He sounded so small, looked so small, like a little kid. Relief flooded you instantly when you heard his voice, sobs wracking through your body as you clutched him close. He's okay. He's alive. Doom didn’t kill him. But he’s not the same. Not Sentry.
Bob shook, chills running down his spine. His senses were fucked. He got so used to hearing, seeing, feeling everything dialed up a hundred, but now, it was like before. Before the serum, before Malaysia. Everything was so cold. He usually ran insanely hot, but now, he was freezing. It reminded him of a familiar feeling. From before the serum, back in Malaysia. When he couldn’t find drugs. The detox. The one he never got to go through again because the next time Bob was awake after shooting up in Malaysia, he had the serum running through his veins. Now that it was gone, it was all catching up to him, 14 months later.
Bob could barely open his eyes as he spoke, his voice hoarse, like he’d been deprived of water for days. “It’s cold, it hurts.”
“We’ll find you a blanket, yeah? A blanket should help.” You were on autopilot. Acting. Not really there. In a daze.
And then finally, you heard her. A call of your name. Hurried footsteps echoing closer until the blonde Russian was finally within your sights. You could barely see her through your tears, but you'd know her silhouette from anywhere. Yelena.
She called your name again, but paused halfway through, stopping in her tracks as she saw you two. They were too late.
“Bob!” She rushed toward you two, sliding on her knees once she was close enough to touch. One hand on your back and the other latching onto Bob's clammy ones. “Oh my god, what happened!”
“Doom…”
You flinched as you said his name, your grip tightening on Bob. Almost like you thought he’d appear again if you said his name. before snapping back into action.
“Help me get him up!” You cried out, throwing one of Bob's arms over your shoulder. Yelena immediately grabbed his other arm, both of you hauling him to what was left of the med bay.
It didn't take long after that for the tests to confirm your theory. Whatever Doom did, it stripped Bob of his abilities - Sentry and Void – both gone, for there could not be one without the other. And with that came an unforeseen side effect. Before the trials in Malaysia, Bob had never gone through the detox of the drugs he'd long been addicted to. The serum suppressed that. But now, fully mortal, it ravaged him, dormant for nearly two years. And it wasn’t pretty.
You held him through it, held his hair back as he vomited, comforted him as the shakes coursed through his body; every second was filled with pain that wracked Bob's now-fragile body. Bob had almost forgotten the feeling. The nausea, the body shakes, the never-ending torture. He could barely sleep; his muscles ached every time he so much as shifted positions in bed, and his heart rate was so high, Bob felt like he was about to have a heart attack. It was the longest 48 hours of your lives.
You'd been so preoccupied with Bob, not wanting him out of your sight, you hadn't seen anyone else besides Yelena and Bucky, who helped you treat Bob, and John, who said nothing, probably because he knew nothing could make it better. But he showed he cared with the breakfast he put outside your door and the way he squeezed your shoulder with a comforting tightness he reserved only for his friends.
When his fever finally broke and the vomiting stopped, you both finally felt like you could breathe again. While Bob finally slept, it was then that you got the rundown about what happened just days ago to what was left of the heroes. No one said a word as they walked in, the defeat heavy on their shoulders.
Learning what happened was gut wrenching. How everyone put up a fight; thankfully, no one on your team died, but others weren’t so lucky. The X-Men, at least that’s what Yelena said they were called, nearly lost all their people. Including their professor. They were all on their last leg, exhausted and barely holding on when Doom overpowered them, and then he disappeared. That’s when they realized he was heading for the tower. They tried to get back here as fast as they could, but with the people they lost, they just weren’t fast enough.
Once Bob was awake, you told him what happened. Whispering softly in his ear as you gently ran your fingers through his unruly hair, trying to comfort him in the only way you knew how. It was a tight fit in his hospital bed, but you curled up in there with Bob, one arm thrown around his middle as you laid on your side with him on his back. He stared at the ceiling, seemingly transfixed by the lines and indents of the drywall that rested above you.
“Honey,” you tried to get his attention, but Bob didn’t answer, didn’t react. Almost like he didn’t hear you or anything you'd said for the past ten minutes. It was only when you held his face in your hands and turned him to face you that he finally looked at you. And really looked at you, not through you. You kissed him softly. So gently, like you were afraid if you were too rough with him, he might break. You wouldn’t blame him if he did. Especially after this. “We’ll be okay Bob, you hear me? We’ll figure this out, okay?”
Bob scoffed, not believing a word you said. “How? How could this possibly get better in any way or be ‘figured out?’ Half the people we had, to take this guy out, are fucking dead now. And without my powers, I'm nothing. I was barely anything with the team before. A fucking liability who couldn’t control themself. And now, now, I'm really nothing. And if we can't undo it, then, then -”
“Shh. Don't. Please.” You shushed him, kissing his forehead, his cheek, and then his lips. Each one telling him something else. It's okay. We'll figure this out. I love you.
“Don’t. Don’t do that. You mean everything to this team. To me. You're worth more than anything, with or without your powers.” Gently, you wiped his fallen tears with your thumb; Bob just leaned in more to your hand. He didn’t know how he'd ever survive this without you. “Right now, focus on healing. Nothing else matters right now besides you getting better.”
Bob didn’t argue with you, even if he thought you were full of shit, always the pessimist. He just tucked his head in the crook of your neck, his lingering headache easing as he breathed you in. Thoughts jumbled in his head, all saying different things. How much he didn’t deserve you. You were willing to do anything for him, nearly killing yourself trying to save him, and he now really had nothing to offer in return. Who was he kidding? He never had anything to offer you in return. Even with Sentry, he wasn’t worthy of you. But Bob knew better than to utter a single one of these thoughts in front of you.
You stayed like that for a while, not saying anything to one another as you found comfort just being in each other’s presence. But it gnawed at you. His words. That there might be no way to come back from this. To undo what Doom did. But you weren’t going to let that stop you from finishing what this asshole started, even if it was the last thing you did on this Earth.
