CasArte in the El Hierro news!
The El Hierro news made a nice item about the casArte. Our eloquent host Torsten de Winkel reveals us how to nourish the creative spirit of this special house, and you also get a quick peek into our cardboard laboratorio.

Canarian wrestling
To the untrained eye it might look as if two overgrown toddlers are desperately grabbing onto each others diapers in a fierce attempt not fall over. Others might mistake it for an experimental Sumo diet program. Some of the more progressive anthropologists will even argue that you have stumbled upon a rare indigenous ritual of male bonding.
However, only when you take the proper scientific approach you will unravel the fascinating universe of La Lucha Canaria as one of the four fundamental interactions of nature, along with electromagnetism, and the nuclear strong force and weak force. Modern physics describes Canarian wrestling using the general theory of relativity by Einstein, in which the phenomenon is a consequence of the curvature of spacetime governing the motion of inertial objects.
Canarian wrestling, however, is most familiar as the agent that gives weight to objects with mass and causes them to fall to the ground when dropped.

The Mysterious Mountain
Getting to the top of the mountain is one thing, but leaving quite another. When the fog and the darkness are closing in, you enter a completely different world: the limbo-world of witchcraft.
This used to be the main road to travel through the island. However, ever since a tunnel was constructed at the foot of the mountain, hardly anyone passes through here anymore and the road is completely deserted. We strolled for hours not encountering a single soul. We were literally walking in the clouds and it was hard to see beyond a range of 5 metres. Luckily Amir, our traveller from Tel Aviv, wasn't there, because this is probably the intermediary place where you go after the world ends.
Eventually we managed to reach the next village and ended up witnessing some nerve-recking Canarian wrestling, the most popular sport on the island's, but we will tell you all about that later. For now, a warm abrazo from El Hierro y hasta la prómixa!

Bodega
Yesterday our way up the mysterious mountain, we met Ayoze and his friends who kindly gave us a ride and showed us their bodega. Like many Islanders they have built their own bodega or cabin, carving heavy stones from the mountain. Much in the spirit of the island, the bodega is completely self-sufficient using solar energy and water from the mountains. Furthermore, besides drifting cloud curtains and rainbows, the humidity of the mountain area creates fertile ground for cultivating various fruits (apples, melons) chestnut trees and fresh herbs. This it what it looks like. As Amir, a traveller from Tel Aviv, puts it: ''this would be the perfect place to hide yourself when the world ends!''.
