ophilia- orphaned at age 5. i choose to believe she had a large and loving family, but according to the canon timeline they all died in the war.
cyrus- youngest son of a wealthy merchant family. his parents and his older brother and sister are all merchants, and they wanted cyrus to go into merchanting as well, but academics was his true passion
tressa- HUGE extended family all over the coastlands and nearby areas. she's an only child, but she has lots of aunts and uncles and cousins on both sides. i like to hc trish from cotc as one of her cousins and, fuck it, the octuplets are in there too.
olberic- he had parents and an older sister that died when he was relatively young, so he was raised by his grandparents. but he felt really bad about being such a drain on them, so he joined the knighthood young. wrote and visited regularly until their death when he was in his 20s.
primrose- only child, her parents were also both only children, and her father's parents died early, but her maternal grandmother was part of her life until her mother died when she was a little under 2. after her father was murdered she was supposed to live with her second cousins until she was old enough to run noblecourt, but that didn't work out so hot.
alfyn- raised by a single mom named millie, who was a carpenter. millie herself drifted into clearbrook when she was pregnant, and was eagerly accepted into the community. she was good friends with harlan and vera gale, zeph's parents, and they kind of communally raised their kids until zeph's parents died. millie only died a year before the game started, and alfyn's very much still mourning her. they were very close and she was always super encouraging. he has grandparents in riverford, but hasn't met them. clearbrook is all the family he needs.
therion- here's a fun one. i actually hc his mom (i named her tima) was a spy for edoras (the nation in the cliftlands that cotc establishes). his dad was a soldier that tima had a one-night-stand with. maybe they were in love, but they couldn't be together. when tima found herself pregnant, she gave the baby to her sister and her husband, therion's aunt and uncle, who were very poor and fought A Lot. therion ran away for the first time when he was 6 and never looked back.
h'aanit- z'aanta is the only family she needs. i hc that any time there's an orphan in s'warkii they get trained as the hunter's apprentice, and h'aanit happened to be the only one at the time bc s'warkii is so small.
ochette- born to normal loving beastling parents, but juvah had a premonition that she was The Apprentice, so juvah mostly raised her, but she also regularly sees her parents and they still live in the village and couldn't be prouder of her.
castti- born on a farm in healeaks to ordinary rural parents. only child. decided she wanted to be a doctor at around age six, and practiced her medicine on injured animals and her friends. at 13 she became apprenticed to the village healer, who taught her herbal remedies, but also believed in "sink or swim," so she was basically practicing medicine right away. took malaya randy andy and elma as apprentices when she was 16-17 and they all decided to become traveling apothecaries together.
throné- throné's entire story is about family, we know her deal.
osvald- only child. his parents died before elena was born. they didn't really know what to do with him tbh? bc like the game wrote an autistic man so i choose to believe he's autistic born to non-autistic parents. he spent most of his time alone. didn't have a lot of friends. but they're happy he found a career he's proud of and that he found love. (btw rita and elena are also both autistic)
partitio- his mom's name is poppy and she was a merchant just like papp. she died when partitio was pretty young of Anime Mom Disease, probably. she and papp would've had more kids if things shook out differently.
agnea- i think garud is originally from cropdale and that's why he and cuani settled there when cuani's health got bad. agnea and pala grew up knowing their grandparents, but they died before cuani did.
temenos- temenos isn't my blorbo so i don't have very detailed hcs for him, but in the amazing fic star fall (everyone read star fall) he's the youngest member of the kal people, left on a flamechurch doorstep when the massacre happened, which was exactly 30 years ago 🤔
hikari- hikari's story's all about his family, we know his whole deal as well.
