Blackness in Rock, Blues and Jazz
Developed by the bonds of slavery, African American communities in the South brought an evolution to blues and jazz music with the heavy influence of West African slave spirituals and chants. Through the birth of jazz came the emergence of other genres, with the most notable being rock and roll. As rock and roll came to into the music industry, so did unforgettable artists like Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Bessie Smith, and Louis Armstrong, and continued to generate legenadary artists today such as Amy Winehouse, YEBBA, Sade, John Mayer, and many more.
