He takes several seconds to stop looking at his phone, whatever he was fixated on having caught his attention for far too long, almost breaking the barriers of politeness and instead ensuring he appears rude. But after the short time passes to let the other's words sink in with the click of the button to switch the screen off, a frown crosses his features in a quick barrage of thoughts as finally he looks up. What a random thing to say. Maybe Eli is aware of his amusement for other people's woes. Or perhaps he's simply approached to spark up conversation. Maybe even it's a joke?

"Would you rather the ghost option maybe? Or perhaps the slow descent into madness and decay is actually more your thing." He's smiling throughout speaking, rather entertained in tone with each word that comes out. Random conversations are always more than welcome during breaktime, even if he does need to chillout and relax for once, which he rather not. It is far more his thing to constantly be switched on.

A glance to his coffee, almost black, he soon reaches out for it, hand hovering at the handle for a second before picking it up and putting it to his lips.

"You could always hire a ghost if things are too..." A pause. "Strenuous." Words breathed over the rim of mug and a sip soon taken, he appears content. Amused, even. "Though, there is no fun in that. And no challenge."

He goes down with a yelp he can't keep in, having barely the time to turn his face not to slam his nose on the ground before he meets the floor. His nose and lips are already bleeding after dealing with a bunch of those goddamn grunts ( he could say anything about Rockets, but he'll give 'em that: they were fucking persistent ), but he'd much rather avoid having anything broken.

Granted, considering that the asshole who delivered a hit strong enough to make him lose balance decided to press him further down, pinning him before he could stand up again, a tooth less or an even more crooked nose all of a sudden seem like the least of his imminent problems.

"Motherfu--!"

The Skull leader growls, bloodied hands press on the floor as he still attempts to make the other fall.

"Get OFF you son of a bitch-!"

"I told you to stay still!"

The yell comes out a little weaker than you'd like it to be. You can't stop crying. Your leg hurts. Your leg hurts so bad. The other Pokèmon are already knocked out, but Feraligatr, he--

...y-you can't get in the Pokèmon Center while both you and your Pokèmon are bleeding so hard. They'll start asking questions, they'll say that he's too aggressive, they'll wonder who you are and keep you there until the police arrives, especially since both of you have the same, unmistakable bite mark. The Houndoom's flaming teeth already cauterized it, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt any less.

Feraligatr growls with annoyance as you try to clean as many cuts as you can, unable to stay still. He never does what you want him to. He attacks when you tell him not to, he doesn't step aside when he's injured, and now he can't stay down for ten fucking minutes while you try to heal him!

"STAY STILL YOU STUPID LIZARD!"

You snap, screaming a little louder. He seems to be taken aback for a second, and then roars in return, his fangs just inches away from your face. You make yourself small, shiver. You notice a hint of regret in his eyes, but when he gets closer you--

You roar back. You don't know what made you do it, exactly. Maybe it's just the need to scream. You see the Water-Type blink, then snarls.

He roars. You roar. You continue just screaming until your voice cracks and the tears return to fall. You lean on him, and he quiets down, licking your cheek and pulling you closer, resting his head against your shoulder and back in what should be a hug. You don't hesitate to hug him back.

His breath smells of iron, his whole body like blood, sulfur and dirt. You probably smell the same.

You're so tired. Both of you.

Lets himself into the executive's office without knocking, placing paperwork on with desk, with no regard for whatever Proton might be working on. It's a vacation form "I'm going to Paldea for a week." Eli says, voice and expression are flat. He's been doing alright but... base has been suffocating lately. The man's sure his haggard appearance says everything for him. "Sign it." There's a pause. An uncertain shift of his weight from one foot to the other, arms crossing over his chest as he adds, just a touch quieter; "Please."

❝ You wanna try that again? ❞ Proton grunts with irritation as he is barged in on, and given a demand by his subordinate. He doesn't give a Rattata's ass about Eli's age, or how long he has been with the organization. If he intended on asking for something, he was going to ask for it properly. Executive Proton also looked exhausted, the dark circles around his eyes evidence of the extra shifts he's been working.

Eli mutters the 'please', and the man's annoyed scowl softens into something that passed more as mild frustration.

❝ Gimme that, ❞ Proton huffs through his nostrils, taking the paper, and looking it over. Without even looking up at Eli, he asks:

❝ Whattaya keep going out to Paldea for? ❞

I've been writing Red for as long as I can remember.

I'm one of the few (or probably many) who have had a long attachment to him. Earliest memories gotta be sitting down on my Nana's ancient pullout couch when I was like 11, watching pokemon videos on YT on my hand-me-down gateway windows vista laptop that probably had a virus or two on it, considering it was sitting gathering dust in our musty basement, where my grandpa kept all of the computer stuff he tinkered with. It's a really vivid memory because I think it's important to me.

I was very interested in him, not because "he's just like me" (this was prior to my transition, so I really didn't have any traditional autistic symptoms at this time.) but moreso the fact that he was just mysterious and interesting. Admittedly, I was already familiar with Pokemon Adventures, so that interpretation was my first introduction. I think one day I just went down the rabbit hole and found a bunch of stuff related to him, whether it be x reader fics on deviantart or any of that fanart where he was an "uwu baby twink" (you know the ones.)

This is incredibly long-winded but every few years I would continue to get an either brief or prolonged attachment to him. Became so obsessed when I found out he was in U/SM. Because I'd been roleplaying other characters (got my start in minecraft) over the years, it was really a given that I ended up picking him up. So I did. I've been doing it on and off since...probably 2019, I think. I deleted my old blog, so I don't quite remember. It may have even been earlier than that.

I don't think he's necessarily a part of me, I think he's just provided me a lot of comfort over the years and that's why I continue to write him. He's special. That's all.

He’s been coming here for a long time, clearly. Yellow can remember even when they were small, there was someone (or someones) like this man. The way his soul is stitched up should be horrifying… but somehow, it just makes Yellow sad. It makes them want to help. What use are their powers if Yellow can’t help others?

they decide again, today, they’re going to make friendly with him. Yellow pops into the thicket seemingly out of nowhere, before pointing.
