SLN-006: Glitch Man
Height: 5′10" Special Weapon: Glitch Strike Good Point: Agile Bad Point: Introverted Glitch Man originally began as a prototype model of Zap Man to be mass produced to electricity plants worldwide, but his manufacturers at Top•Energy Electrics ultimately scrapped the model after a few units proved faulty. This flaw in the prototype's technology interested Synth greatly, and upon acquiring a defunct model with Zap Man's assistance, repainted and refit it with weaponized glitch abilities, able to corrupt any tech at a moment's notice. While Glitch Man takes pride in his powers, he is best described as something of an introvert. Due to his corrupted inner workings, it sometimes takes him a while to say something, often having to repeat himself a few times before he can find his words. Even with his closeted personality, Glitch Man is known to have his moments of boldness, particularly in battle- one wrong move and he'll leave you feelin' buggy! Rev up your antiviruses, because Glitch Man corrupts in! In many respects, I find him to be the most unique of the eight, mainly because a glitch-themed robot master isn’t something you tend to see very often... if not ever. As Zap Man’s older (And much more personality contrasted) brother, this fragile foe is quite noteworthy for his surprising agility and corruptive abilities! Hope you enjoy the sprites, and keep your head up for SLN-007!
“G-G-Glitch Man out!”
SLN-003: Satellite Woman
Height: 5'8" Special Weapon: Reflect Satellite Good Point: Intelligent Bad Point: Sensitive Within the top ranks of the Space Surveillance Network, the astute Satellite Woman designs and tests satellite services in a top-secret base exactly one hundred parsecs away from Earth. Always equipped with the most recent satellite models on her back, Satellite Woman gains an extra edge in battle with her reflective satellites, able to reflect just about any projectile. When her defense isn’t cutting it, she is also equipped with her one of a kind satellite buster, capable of shooting hazardous lasers that can cut through solid steel. When she’s not in battle, she oversees operations of the Space Surveillance Network, meeting up with Astro Man for data reports every now and then. Due to her smart nature, she is a natural problem-solver, but dislikes being put on the spot. With her impressive agility and quick wit, she makes for an out of this world foe! Up next of the Synth Legion Numbers comes SLN-003, Satellite Woman, in all her starry glory! I personally believe that space-themed robot masters should be much more plentiful, so it’s no surprise that I actually have quite a few designed, Satellite Woman of course being one of them. I’m actually really proud of her design, she may be one of the better if not the best robot mistress I’ve come up with, though that all owes up to my love in designing interstellar-themed robot masters. I hope you enjoy her, and tune in next time when SLN-004 emerges from the shadows!
I’ve kept this mostly under wraps for long enough, and after some thought and newfound courage, I believe it’s finally time I show it off.
Some of you may remember this post, where I mentioned creating a faux Mega Man fangame entitled “Mega Man Ultimate”, which is essentially just a full set of original robot masters alongside a new Mega Man Killer. While I don’t have much to show for the latter, what you’re looking at is the culmination of two years of on and off work for eight robot master designs and portraits. As it’s probably evident by the amount of detail and dedication that went into this one stage select mockup, I absolutely adore creating original robot masters- I always have. I began making them in late 2013, and while none of my earliest concepts were meant to be taken seriously, most of them were met with IMMENSE backlash because apparently a ‘waste management robot master that looks like a trash can’ is too stupid of an idea (Yet Mega Man: SFR gets a free pass for having exactly that? Rant for another time), so because of it, I kept a lot of my Mega Man related content to myself, in fear that it would regress even with my obvious improvement since then. It was when I showed these eight designs to some close friends that also liked Mega Man that I learned that I’ve no fear in showing them off and I deserve to feel proud of the herculean amount of work that went into this passion project. I plan on uploading each robot master portrait separately along with their respective sprite and a small written overview of each one, and I cannot wait to finally, after all this time, share these creations with the Mega Man fans of tumblr!
SLN-004: Amazon Man
Height: 6'0" Special Weapon: Amazon Wrap Good Point: Heroic Bad Point: Tackles dangerous situations head-on without a second thought Operating deep within the Tenzing Jungle, an enormous treescape in Australia, Amazon Man's original objective was to venture into parts unknown and bring undiscovered species of jungle animalia to light. It was when Synth recruited him into the Synth Legion that the Tenzing Jungle became an enemy base of operations that Amazon Man swore to protect with his very life. Amazon Man uses the leaves on his back to camouflage himself before seeking out his prey with his detachable Python Buster, which can deplete all of a robot’s life energy within a few minutes. Amazon Man, while not necessarily an introvert, enjoys the seclusion of jungles worldwide, and is a friend to all species that roam them. In addition to his unending heroism, he is a quite notable for his incredibly thick Australian accent. G’day! The valorous jungle explorer Amazon Man makes his presence known as the fourth unit of the Synth Legion Numbers! He may just be the most detailed in terms of design of the eight robot masters of the Synth Legion- he’s got thorned vines, flowers giant leaves and even a cool hat! Watch your back when in proximity of this wildlife extraordinaire- you never know when he’ll leap out! I hope you enjoy the design like always, and be on the lookout for SLN-005, the second giant of the Synth Legion!
SLN-001: Zap Man
Height: 6'4" Special Weapon: Zap Chaser Good Point: Attentive Bad Point: Hotheaded Zap Man, a robot initially built for electricity plant inspection, talks big and stands bigger. With a glass dome constantly exerting five hundred thousand gigawatts, his electricity is easily the most dangerous out of any of Mega Man's previous shocking foes, able to cause blackouts at a moment's notice. True to his no-nonsense nature, Zap Man can sometimes be an impatient bot and tends to have things done his way, otherwise he grows irritated. In his spare time, he tours electricity plants across the globe, harshly critiquing each one to the point of growing so furious that he'll subject the entire town to a power outage. I had meant to wait a little while before beginning to upload each of the eight robot masters I’ve designed for Mega Man Ultimate, but I simply couldn’t after the unexpected positive response I received upon uploading the stage select- I had no idea it would be received so well! Starting things off is the first robot master I designed for the line, the electrifying Zap Man! I hope you enjoy the sprites!
SLN-008: Noise Man
Height: 5′8" Special Weapon: Noise Shock Good Point: Energetic Bad Point: Noisy (Get it?) A robot designed to be a walking party, Noise Man is a DJ icon the world over. With his extensive knowledge of musical technology and dual speaker shoulderpads that can blast music for up to five miles, he is a popular robot master at raves, parties, the like. Synth, admiring Noise Man's design (For obvious reasons) refit him from the life of the party to a master of disturbing the peace with his extremely high frequencies. While nowhere near as self-centered as Strafe Man, Noise Man knows he's a big deal, and loves to party hard. He is also notoriously agile, never one to pass up the opportunity to show off his moves. Better try and keep up on the dance floor, ‘cause Noise Man will rock your world! The final number of the Synth Legion goes off with a bang— it’s Noise Man! Musical themed robot masters are something of a rarity in Mega Man’s canon, which is fairly unusual when more seasoned Mega Man fans will know of the tendency to have certain characters named after musical terminology (Rock and Roll, Bass and Treble, Beat, the list goes on and on), and while a noise-themed robot master with a pair of headphones is nothing new in terms of fan robot masters, it’s his DJ personality and his synth-patterned armor that makes him stand out! With Noise Man’s debut out of the way, this means that all eight robot masters from Mega Man Ultimate are shown and accounted for... but what’s Synth’s deal? Only time will tell... hope you enjoy the sprites!
SLN-002: Geyser Man
Height: 7'6" Special Weapon: Chain Geyser Good Point: Dependable Bad Point: Unintentionally hazardous A towering robot modeled after volcanic eruption, Geyser Man was in charge of monitoring the characteristics of cryptodomes and hotspots before being armed for battle by Synth, a rogue robot with a drive to amass a powerful army of unstoppable robots dubbed the ‘Synth Legion’ (The Synth Legion Numbers). Despite appearing as a power-hungry giant, Geyser Man believes in a fair battle, but his internally stored magma can reach up to a hot temperature of 3,000 F, so he often begins with the upper hand. His antagonistic side notwithstanding, Geyser Man is a highly dependable and respectable robot who loves hot springs and often goes on vacations to sightsee volcanoes with Magma Man. Coming in hot from the Synth Legion is the sizeable Geyser Man! While it was difficult to figure out how to incorporate magma and volcanoes into his design, I eventually settled on a volcanic helmet and chose to make his arms and legs see-through glass, revealing the lava flowing throughout his being! His sprite was definitely one of the harder ones to make, all because of how hard it is to sprite a closed fist, but at least the turnout looks pretty great! I hope you enjoy him, and stay tuned for SLN-003!
