OKAY SO

in the original comic, peter got his powers from tony stark, who gave him the radioactive spider and an ai-powered super suit

rod also got bit by a radioactive spider but instead of tony giving the spider to him, the spider itself actually travelled through different realities to reach him, so that he could get his rightful powers and his universe can get one step closer to being what it was meant to be

oh most of the public hates him 😭😭 webster causes WAY more destruction than s.pider-man does but that's because webster is trying to take out whole organizations while s.pider-man is focused on defeating individual criminals

right wingers hate webster cuz he's a "far left terrorist" meanwhile "centrists" and liberals don't like that he takes destructive action and doesn't go through the "right" processes. it's only the leftists and the working class folks and the users of the midnight manhattan confessions forum who vibe w/ him

webster also gets reallyyyy quiet sometimes so he comes off as unnerving.... i'd be scared if i saw him on the street at night tbh

and hell yes he eats on the job!!!! he's snacking on donuts and cookies and fast food and no one can do anything about it cuz he always does all his work on time (somehow....)

he also loves finishing all his work in like one hour then slacking off for the rest of the day :3

so this au is loosely based on ultimate s.pider-man 2024, in which p.eter p.arker didn't get bit by the radioactive spider when he was a teen because a villain from another timeline wanted to stop any superheros from forming in his timeline

rodney rodriguez is a photographer and journalist for the daily bugle. he's a bit eccentric but ultimately not that remarkable. for his entire life, he always felt like he was supposed to be something *more* and he knows that there's something.... off about his world

he was, in fact, correct

s.pider-man (who i'll be referring to as webster from now on) is more of an anti-hero than classic s.piderman. webster has the same powers but he can also break the fourth wall and has very minor reality-bending powers. he's vaguely aware that his world is a freaking selfship au that's based off an alternate timeline comic run 😭😭

chase h. charleston is his boss and they've worked together for 10+ years. chase's personality is just a blend of chick's and j. j.onah j.ameson's personalities. rod & chase got a lot closer when webster started doing his vigilante work, since rod is the photographer who's able to get the most photos of webster

chase HATESSSS webster but he very obviously has a soft spot for rod. chase has no idea that they're the same guy. shenanigans ensue :3
