Vaggie is..... a lesbian

hello anon,

I am well aware of Vaggie's canon sexuality, and I am quite happy she is a lesbian. I myself am a lesbian, and she is my favorite character. The StrikerxVaggie ship was based on a meme post that was a crackship challenge that stated your hellaverse crackship is your fave Hazbin character x your fave helluva boss character.

Obviously that was Vaggie and Striker, and being a writer I wanted to see the challenge of shipping them. I only ship them in the context of my Lone Vaggie au, where I've rewritten the hazbin timeline where Vaggie wasn't saved by Charlie but by Carmilla, and she hasn't discovered that she is and is allowed to be attracted to only women.

I definitely don't intend to erase the fact she's a canon lesbian, but let's not pretend the majority of fandoms and writers don't twist canonical straight characters and make them queer, or bisexual characters where they only make them gay or lesbian.

I've also known personally other lesbians who can still find sex with men gratifying but aren't romantically inclined towards them, and lesbians who took a long while and dated a plethora of men and women before realizing they are only really attracted towards women. Sexuality is a spectrum, and some people are still figuring things out for themselves.

Hope this clears up any confusion. I'm well aware of Vaggie being a canon lesbian, and this is a writing exercise of a what if scenario where Vaggie hasn't discovered she's only really romantically and physically drawn towards women, as in my fic Hell is not so empty, especially dealing with Religious Trauma and all the teachings that have repressed who she really is that she has to unlearn while dealing with the threat of missing Angelic weapons and her future enigmatic partnership with Striker. I also want to explore her character outside of what we've only been given through the show, which falls into the sin of only boxing her in as 'Charlie's girlfriend.' I want to write her being her own person seperate from being in a relationship with Charlie before she inevitably finds her way to the Morningstar princess.

To sum it up, the original sole fic of Hell is not so empty is just a collection of ideas I wanted to smash together in one fic: Vaggie working for Carmilla, Vaggie getting seperate development away from Charlie, treating a crackship seriously, and exploring how religious trauma can affect ones mental state and acceptance of themselves.

Vaggie does end up together with Charlie, admitting to Striker that aside from sexually gratifying experiences and a feeling with camaraderie with him as a strong capable fighter, she tells him she will never be complete with him as she has found more of herself and wants to explore her attraction and feelings for Charlie.

Striker isn't exactly happy with the idea of Vaggie breaking their partnership and benefits of it by shacking up with Hell's top royal branch, but he cares for and respects Vaggie to let her go without a fight, leaving them to part ways and never see each other again

in regards to the fic Hell is not so empty

This is genuinely a complex question to answer without spoiling the plot to my Lone Vaggie au, but here goes:

Spoilers for the plot of Hell is not so empty

The best way I can describe it is that Vaggie may end up loving Striker, but she isn't in love with Striker by the time the story reaches its conclusion. Striker's journey is quite tumultuous as well, finding Vaggie to be one of the only people he's genuinely gave two shits about in a long time by the end of the fic.

Their journey in the fic is fraught with danger. Striker is the first person Vaggie encounters in three years that she genuinely has to try to defeat, and even with all her skills as an Exorcist, the most she can do is result in a stand off. Under the frustration since she's on a job, I feel Vaggie would end up respecting Striker's prowess. And Striker himself gets a few lucky hits in, one of which scrapes her skin and exposes her golden blood and her identity. This leads to Vaggie having to find the weapons and hunt Striker down, due to the danger of him knowing she's an angel and what he can do with that knowledge.

Its a game of cat and mouse for a while, before they corner each other. Striker offers a compromise due to several factors, and they agree to temporarily work together. This partner evolves and revolves as the story continues, with the pair facing off against a rising gang of demons in Greed with access to angelic weaponry. It's dangerous work....and thrilling.

Theres a few decisions made under their partnership that could lead to deeper feelings, at least for Striker, but Vaggie feels herself never quite whole. Especially when she returns to Pride occasionally to report to Carmill and ends up meeting Charlie, where they will have sporadic encounters sprinkled in that slowly inch Vaggie towards realizing she only feels a romantic pull towards women, but that doesn't mean she can't love Striker platonically.

By the end of the fic, she does explain this to him after she's figured herself out, and admit to her growing fondness for Charlie. Striker definitely isn't happy that he's losing his partner to a Royal, but well, he cares and respects Vaggie enough to let her go, although he is the one to decide this has to mean they will no longer be seeing each other. Striker has his business as a hit man assassinating royals and the like, and he can't stick around if Vaggie is gonna 'shack up' with a Royal princess of hell. This does sadden Vaggie, but she can't continue living accepting only half of herself.

The two end up parting ways, with Vaggie returning to Charlie, whose gathered the courage to ask out the pretty lady who she's been meeting up with on and off.

Striker returns to Wrath to start setting up contracts, but he does kick himself for losing Vaggie.

I'm also a big music person, so these songs are what I had in mind when I write this if that can somehow explain how I'm trying to convey this story.

Haha thank you kindly! It's a very niche crackship that I can only ship in one specific context of an au because I don't want to erase the fact that Vaggie is a canon lesbian, but I also want everyone to remember like asexuality, other sexualities can exist on a spectrum. Plus the concept of them is so cool, being that they are both very good fighters! I love me a couple who can kick ass together, and probably do it messy. I wanna see Vaggie throw hands (like when she punched that one demon in the pilot or was hand to hand fighting Lute) since we know Striker can and will throw hands.

I think they're neat.

But I am glad someone else is a fan on this small ship, the boat now has more passengers as they say. It was difficult writing an au where they can even meet and begin a (temporary) relationship but I'm doing my best with Hell is not so empty, but there are two stand alone fics I've written for them.

Sometimes, you just wanna ship your favorite characters together.

Hell is not so empty

Summary:

What if instead of a random cannibal child, Vaggie had cornered Carmilla's daughters during the extermination. Seeing fearful eyes but a desire to protect one another, Vaggie falters and urges them to flee right before Lute ambushed her.

Wingless and down to one eye, it's not Charlie that finds the mutilated angel, but Carmilla instead, who repays her daughters lives with aid and a purpose.

Three years later, Vaggie works under Carmilla as a guard, her identity kept secret. When a shipment of angelic weapons goes missing, Carmilla sends Vaggie to locate the missing weaponry, and to fell anyone who gets in her way.

Vaggie would never imagine she'd run into an Imp who could match her blade with blade, hand to hand, and turns out he's even skilled with guns. A true challenge to test Vaggie's skills and the convictions she holds onto with broken bloodied hands. Along the way, she also meets the kind and ambitious Princess of Hell herself, making her question the lessons Heaven had drilled into her.
