Don't mind me. I'm just over here grinning at all my Sims meeting and becoming friends in this new save. 🤭 This is something I wanted to happen before, but I couldn't make it work without feeling forced. Now, I just let these Sims be Sims and make all my dreams come true lol.
Francine and Gerard had a delayed honeymoon so they could travel to Tomarang to celebrate and spend time with his extended family. Shortly after arriving, she received a text from Rodney saying they needed to talk when she got back. This news is everything she hoped for. Congrats to these two! I'm with Fran. Don't drag your feet now, sir.
Time and distance gave them clarity. Alondra realized she might have underestimated how deeply Rodney loved her. She accused him of not being on her level, but to him, he'd reached the top. Growing up how he grew up, he didn't know anything else. In his heart, he was fully committed already. One day, Rodney realized this within himself. He'd been faithfully committed this whole time, and it wasn't even hard. So why was he still so afraid of making it official? After some soul-searching, he understood. Until getting with Alondra, he'd been following in his father's footsteps to the letter. Was his love for and commitment to Alondra strong enough to stop him from completing the cycle, cheating on her and ruining both their lives? He couldn't risk it. She was the one person he couldn't stand to lose. He talked about it with his mother. He even talked to his best friend, Noah. They told him the same thing they had always told him: he was ready; he's not his father; this is how you prove it. After getting the reassurance and support he needed, he went to Alondra, and they re-evaluated their relationship through the lens of their revelations and started anew.
The next iteration was different—much more intentional. Alondra stopped minimizing her comfort, being afraid of spooking Rodney with talks of commitment, and spoke up more often about her feelings. During their time apart, she realized she was the reason the relationship had stayed the same. She chose harmony over honesty to protect Rodney from discomfort. That not only stalled their relationship but also came at a detriment to her own emotional safety. She also realized she wasn't really triggered by his actions but by memories of what he had done to her in the past. She couldn't keep hanging that over his head, especially after seeing so much evidence of growth. So getting back together meant showing more grace. And with that, she needed to stop silently evaluating the relationship and wondering how long it's going to last. Instead of waiting for failure, she started watching for consistency—and boy did she get it.
Rodney stopped hiding behind hollow gestures and sex. He opened up and used his words to express himself. He even began using the L-word. Not only that, he created boundaries between himself and other women. Despite the innocence of his interactions with them, he realized true commitment came at a cost, whether it was his comfort, attention, or even his ego. He didn't need their validation anymore. Alondra—the only woman he ever wanted to commit to—chose him. Period.
Alondra initially hesitated to believe what his new boundaries meant. Was it a performance? Or did he do it because that's what he thought she'd want? His answer surprised her. He said he did it because he finally understood what he had, and he'd never let anything or anyone interfere with that ever again. He even proposed! Not immediately, but after some time. Alondra loved how he arrived at that conclusion on his own without having to bring it up again and again. She was so happy to finally have her man—really have him—she moved in with him right away.
In this new save, Rodney only has one restaurant, the OG, SolCaf. This is the story we're going with. The lead server/manager retired and moved to Glimmerbrook with his wife Alice (aliceinstrangerville on Simsta, Nadia's friend) to be near their son and their grands. Rodney was serious about making sacrifices for the sake of his relationship, and running two restaurants full-time on his own started taking him away from what he treasured most. So, he sold the taqueria and reclaimed his time.
So, to recap, Rodney's story will pick up with him a few months into his engagement and running SolCaf. His mother and her husband made the cut, but his other friends did not. We don't know them like that, and because he is best friends with Loren's husband, I foresee him being more integrated into the main story now that I've given myself the freedom to do so. And because of that, I foresee me doing better about playing rotationally and getting around to him.
I knew it had been a while since we spent time with Rodney, but I didn't realize more than three human years have gone by. A little more than a sim year has passed, and that is perfect for this time jump situation. Here's what's been going on with Rodney and Alondra while we've been in wedding, honeymoon, newlywed, and engagement land lol.
Last time we saw Rodney, his relationship with Alondra escalated quite a bit. After experiencing his growth, she finally felt ready to give him her whole heart—and her body. The next few months were amazing. Things were stable and beautiful, and Rodney wanted more of it. Alondra made everything better, and he couldn't get enough of her. Over and over, he suggested she move in with him. The offers were tempting. They sounded like he was ready to commit, and that was all she wanted. Still, something about it made her uneasy. One day, she asked him why he thought they should live together. He said the typical things: he doesn't want to be without her, they're together all the time anyway, he wants to take care of her, yada yada yada. All good sentiments, but something was missing at the core.
As time went on, the reason for her hesitation became clearer, especially when they're in public together. Women approached Rodney a lot. Sometimes they recognized him from the restaurants and just wanted to tell him how much they loved his food. Other times they completely ignored Alondra and shot their shot. Rodney, being a gregarious guy, always responded with his playful charm. It was never anything serious or disrespectful—just Rodney being Rodney. Alondra knew he meant no harm, but it still bothered her, and she didn't know why. She kept it to herself and thought on it often because fighting about something she didn't understand would be fruitless.
One day, however, it came to her. Alondra had no intensions on rushing Rodney to the arch, but that didn't mean she wanted to date forever. She looked forward to the day when he'd be ready for the ultimate commitment. But that was the thing. What if he's never ready? What if living together was as much commitment as he could handle? Would she be okay with that? What was it about marriage she thought would be different? She tried to tuck those thoughts away, but they refused to hide. They made her pull away quietly. She didn't think he'd notice, but he did.
Rodney feared what her reticence meant, so he didn't push it. They existed in limbo for a while, tiptoeing around eggshells and elephants. But eventually Alondra spoke up, especially after realizing he was not going to fight for her. Living together wasn't the same as choosing her, and if he didn't understand the difference, he wasn't ready for the level of commitment she required. Maybe he'd never be, and that was problematic. They agreed to break up but remain friends. Losing the intimacy was one thing, but losing a lifelong friend was another thing entirely. But things were not the same. The friendship felt hollow. Honestly, it felt wrong. Neither of them could truly move on, so they agreed to go their separate ways.
