he'd planned this date for weeks. he'd waited until he knew she'd be away for work for longer than an hour or two, and got to work. homemade pasta with alfredo sauce, homemade garlic bread, tiramisu, and a pinot grigio to drink with everything. he'd even set out a cheesy red checkered tablecloth and lit a couple tall white candles.

just as he finishes coating the pasta in the sauce, he hears the lock click from his door, signifying that @roguekinds was home. mitch starts to beam, continuing to stir the pasta. “ i'm in the kitchen, babe. ” he calls out, rubbing his hand on his apron and turning to look at her. god, he can't wait to see her face.

❝ he makes me so happy, el. ❞ fionn wishes he could introduce them, the two people who are most important to him; perhaps his love makes him biased, but he really thinks that ella and scott would get along well. maybe he'll talk to scott about it, see if he'd be okay with knowing one person in fionn's life. maybe he won't; he's terrified of upsetting the balance and losing this entirely. ❝ i've never felt like this about anyone. certainly not someone who likes me back. ❞

and yet...fionn looks down at her hand on his and then back to the television, chewing his lip for a moment. he knows what she's getting at. she's always been easy to read. ❝ i don't...love being a secret. ❞ this isn't something he's admitted to anyone. fionn's barely admitted it to himself. ❝ but i—he needs time. i can't imagine being in his position. he's worth it. ❞

the reaction had been better than expected. he sure knew his boyfriend was happy about it. the league? probably not as happy. at least they weren't kicking him out. and his team supported him too, 100%. this was probably the best reaction he could have had from this. scott hunter was gay, had a boyfriend, and some fancy award that he already knew people were going to say he didn't deserve. maybe @roguekinds was a better idea than anticipated.

“ ella, right? i'm scott. ” he says it so casually, and oddly enough, his face turns beet red. out of embarrassment. “ carter vaugn says you're a killer at this. guess they wanted me to have the best. ”

      *      ROGUEKINDS      /      ft.   ella      —      “      i   think   i’ve   been   a   little   too   kind.      ”

at   first,   caleb   feels   the   sparks   of   fear   settling   in   his   stomach.         he   swallows   it   down,   however,   looking   to   @roguekinds​​   and   reminding   himself   who   she   is      —      who   they   are   together.      ella   would   never   mean   him   in   this   regard;      she   would   never   be   unkind   to   those   that   she   loves.

he   rests   his   hand   upon   her   belly,   drawing   closer   to   her   in   their   kitchen,   where   she   scrubs   at   the   dishes   as   caleb   comes   in   from   work.            “      have   you   had   a   hard   day,   dear?      ”            she   must   have   done;      it   is   very   hard   indeed   to   push   ella   to   such   a   place,   even   pregnant.

                    𝐕𝐄𝐗'𝐀𝐇𝐋𝐈𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐔𝐏 from the tavern's cellar , feeling perhaps even lighter on her feet than usual from a continued sense of relief . trinket is safe and down for the night , and that is all that matters to her in that moment . almost . after having watched her beloved companion work his way through half a sack of dried meats , despite her protests and the ache she can still feel in the depths of her coin purse , there is still one thing she feels obligated to do before letting herself rest .

                    𝐀 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐖𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐃𝐑𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃 a charming smile to all those left drinking after the performing bear debacle see her through the tavern proper . beyond that , she hurries down the hall of rented rooms until she stops in front of @roguekinds' door . something small and wriggling coils deep within the ranger's stomach at the thought of her . while it's not entirely unpleasant , it's enough to make her feel unsure about rapping her knuckles against the heavy wood —- but she does it , all the same , before crossing her arms tightly beneath her breasts .

                    ❝ 𝐊𝐄𝐘𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐇 ? 𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐘 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐁 𝐘𝐎𝐔 , darling , but i was hoping we might have a quick chat . "

@roguekinds​ gets to reunite with the bird

              she  had  arrived  in  whitestone  less  than  an  hour  ago,  summoned  by  his  sister  and  percival,  and  vax  still  didn’t  know  how  he  was  going  to  do  this.  there  really  wasn’t  any  manuel  on  how  to  let  the  love  of  your  life  know  that  you  were  back  from  the  dead.  just  walking  into  the  room  was  clearly  not  the  way,  as  evidenced  by  the  way  he  was  still  a  little  sore  after  his  sister  had  reacted  to  that.    (  he  probably  deserved  it  though,  and  couldn’t  blame  her.  )    but  the  time  to  figure  out  his  reveal  was  quickly  running  out.

              leaning  against  a  tree,  he  could  hear  her  entering  the  garden,  talking  to  someone  —  probably  percy,  he  couldn’t  hear  the  distinct  words  from  this  distance.  eyes  closed  for  a  moment,  just  letting  himself  listen  to  her  voice,  before  it  was  overtaken  by  the  beating  of  wings  as  a  raven  flew  over  to  where  he  was  hiding.  an  arm  moved  to  give  the  bird  a  place  to  land,  and  vax  raised  an  eyebrow  at  them.    “  lemme  guess,  time  to  just  go  out  there?  “    perhaps  his  lady  was  trying  to  give  him  a  push...  

              and  maybe  she  was  right.  now  or  never,  right?  fuck.  swallowing  hard,  just  to  get  rid  of  the  nerves  —  why  was  he  so  fucking  nervous,  it  wasn’t  like  he  was  afraid  of  her  —  he  finally  stepped  around  to  the  other  side.  brown  eyes  searched  for  green,  needing  to  meet  them  before  giving  a  half-grin.    “  hey  there  kiki.  “

              “  since  your  boyfriend  died.  “    maybe  some  people  whould’ve  said  since  vecna  —  z  definitely  wouldn’t  have  —  but  kashaw  wasn’t  about  to  sugarcoat  it  all.  besides,  they  had  chatted  a  little  after  the  battle,  so  this  was  a  more  accurate  assessment.  glancing  at  the  druid  with  an  even  gaze,  he  sighed  at  the  pain  he  could  still  read  in  her  face.    “  yeah,  well,  we  were  all  busy.  z  needed  me  around,  for  the  twins,  y’know.  and  there  was  shit  for  the  take  to  take  care  of.  not  everyone  can  just  bounce  around  everywhere  at  a  moment’s  notice.  “

        it is a weary-looking molly that finds herself knocking on the door of ella’s farmhouse, hoping to every god that she’s not in some far off field. she’s not badly injured (anymore; she took care of that, though the bloodstains remain), but she aches something fierce. in her heart, too, a goodbye having been said that was necessary, but not desired. isn’t that always the way? the best things for you aren’t always those you crave. still, she manages a warm smile as the door opens.  ❝ i don’t suppose i could impose on your hospitality, could i? i’ll earn my keep, once i’ve had a bath and a sit down. ❞
