Jim hated being dragged out to events, but one of his men was getting married and they had invited him to go along for the bachelor party. He sat at the bar, long ignoring the drunken men he’d come in with, fiddling with his mobile and sipping his whisky. He never took note of the other man across from him, watching him, analyzing his moves. No, Jim couldn’t care enough to watch his surroundings; why should he? He was out with his men, protected and safe, even if they were all a bit pissed.

(Starter! I missed you!) “HA! I found a weak-spot on you, didn’t I?” Amy proclaimed proudly, jumping onto the couch.

"Yes, I do have to change, Cas." Dean said softly, bringing a hand to wipe down his face. "I screwed things up again. I gotta do better." He listened, face falling. "Vacation." He laughed, a small grin cracking. "Let's take a stupid-ass long vacation. I don't care where."

“It’s not all you.” He knew that much of this actually was on Dean. Not because it was his fault with everything that had happened, but he took it all on his shoulders and that was what had to change. He chuckled at the suggestion of vacation. “Far away from here,” he commented and slowly nodded his head before looking at Dean again.

Never had Castiel felt so useless as he did that day it all ended. He hadn’t been able to save the younger Winchester. To save Sam.. He had been willing to fight to the end to keep the brothers safe. But he had failed. That furious look in the older brother’s eyes had made it clear, that the angel wasn’t wanted around anymore. If Castiel had only seen that he was needed.

He had disappeared. Gone back to Heaven, trying to correct what he had done wrong in the past. He felt guilty. Guilty of the state Heaven was in, guilty of Sam Winchester’s death.. Guilty of leaving Dean alone with his grief. But the years passed and he forced himself to not go back to earth for long.

But he only succeeded until he saw his friend snapping. He would never be alright.. Not without help. The angel was convinced and for the first time since he saw the life disappearing from Sam’s eyes he went back. He knocked on the door as he didn’t want to scare Dean by just showing up. All he could do was hope that he would be forgiven.
