The world’s scariest bridge, so they say, is the Eshima Ohashi Bridge in Japan. This rollercoaster bridge is enough to give a confident driver a nightmare.

As a driver, who drives everywhere on a daily basis, you usually no longer remember the rest of your drive be it to work, to your home, to the mall or to wherever it is you need to get to. Basically, you just become so used to the drive, and all you can recall is breathing that sigh of relief that you finally made it.

After a rough day, especially after having to drive through major roads like EDSA or C-5 here in Manila (in the Philippines), where a bumper-to-bumper standstill is just part of the usual everyday drive, you kind of just zone out; losing yourself over the blaring horns surrounding you and whatever is playing on your car stereo.

But what happens when you have to drive through and across the Eshima Ohashi Bridge every single day? It may not look so bad from this angle…

Now do you see why they say it’s the world’s scariest bridge? The angle of the bridge has been approved for safety, but can you imagine driving up and down this roller coaster bridge in bad weather? How about being stuck in a standstill? Quite insane, huh?

Built from 1997 to 2004, the Eshima Ohashi Bridge, the world’s third largest of its kind, is a rigid-frame bridge that connects Matsue, Shimane Prefecture to Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture over Lake Nakumi.

The total length of this rollercoaster bridge is 1,700 meters and is 11 meters in width. The height of the bridge is as such so that ships carrying containers, cruise ships, and fishing boats can pass underneath.
