Honestly just needed a place to yap about Blue Spring (2001) SPOILERS AHEAD:
I watched it a couple of days ago (more like a week or so) and god I haven't stopped thinking about it. It's really a beautiful movie, amazing cinematography, and the meaning is so personal to me.
I feel like people tend to take a more negative approach to the movie's core. I have seen people point out that "Some flowers (dreams/hopes) aren't meant to bloom, no matter the soil or attention" and I think that's just a really downer point to make. "The ghost" aa they call him Kujo points out that "People who know what they want scare him" after the death they put cherry blossoms on his desk. Ultimately I believe that The ghost did bloom, his flower bloomed and even if it died after it was still meant to bloom.
The scene with the sensei where Kujo speaks to him about whether flowers are meant to bloom or not one part of what he replies with stands out to me in particular: "That's what I chose to believe. It's a very important thing." The way I interpreted this was that in order for a flower to bloom, you must believe it so. Ultimately the boy who wanted to go nationals (im blanking on the name) his flower will bloom, but it's not him watering it. The flower is meant to bloom.
Perhaps I am more of an optimist, but to me this movie is sad– obviously– but in a sense it is one of hope. Hope that flowers are meant to bloom, and hope that have the ability to allow them too. You can spend every day watering, adding fertilizer, etc and you can keep at it and your flower will bloom. That's what I choose to believe. It's a very important thing.
