In which I continue to be on both my Seanan McGuire Kick AND my For The Driscoll Vibes Kick simultaneously, featuring a ghostroad.
My new tattoo!!
I’ve been rolling ideas around in my head for years, knowing I wanted to get a tattoo that brought together my favorite bits of @seananmcguire works.
I eventually settled on the idea of a pomegranate with lyrics from Wicked Girls, but wasn’t sure where to place the tattoo. But with some other personal stuff going on, it just seems to work out to place it where I did.
This tattoo represents a lot, so I’m gonna explain each part. We’ll start with the “SM centric” stuff:
The W in ‘Wicked’ is more ornate, as it also stands for ‘Welcome’, as a nod to The Birthday Unending.
The lyrics are not only about my love for the song, but all of Seanan’s filk music.
The pomegranate / myth of Persephone features prominently in the Ghost Roads and the Wayward Children series.
The pomegranate juice is also made to look a bit like blood, in reference to the October Daye series.
As for the personal significance:
I’m in love with what pomegranates represent, linked to Persephone and the cycle of life and death and rebirth - new beginnings and changes. And I love the Wicked Girls - because only I can save myself, only I can tell my story.
This tattoo is everything I wanted it to be and more. It’s perfect and gorgeous and I’m so happy with how it came out!
'Can I have a ride?' I say. The sacred phrase of the road, at least where girls like me are concerned. 'I think I've been waiting to drive you since I got my license,' he says, and smiles, and somehow his words aren't cheesy at all. They're just right.
