“The name I can call you instead of just one! And it defeats the purpose of it too! What about, Uncle Dad? Is that.. okay with you? If not I can totally just call you Uncle Qrow..”

Qrow looked up from his desert with a surprised expression. Uncle Dad? It wasnt completely inaccurate, he decided. "If that's something you'd like to do, I'd be alright with it." He nodded with a small smile.

He'd mentioned off-handedly how much Ruby had grown up since the last time he'd seen her, that she must be getting too big for his bear hugs now, and this was her response.  It warmed his heart to hear that his little girl would always accept his hugs, no matter how big she got.

Ruby outstretched her arms and enfolded Tai into a tight hug, and he was only too happy to return it, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.

"I'm glad you haven't outgrown my hugs," he said with a little laugh.  "I'd be VERY sad if you had."  It had been hard, not having either of the girls at home, and he was just going to hold on and hug Ruby for a little while.  He loved his daughters SO MUCH, and he needed to show that more.

"And then what?!" Silvers lit up with a spark, listening to each detail, each tone he spoke in; cheeks rosied with sheer excitement. "Come on, tell me!" No matter how the time flies; stories remain a favorite.

Qrow cocked an eyebrow over the book he was reading aloud and smiled, "You dont want to leave that for tomorrow night?" he asked, amused. "I thought we agreed only two chapters a night, otherwise we burn through books too fast." Not that Qrow was complaining; he too wanted to get to the next part in the story.

"Besides, bed time stories are supposed to help you go to sleep, not get all excited for the next chapter."

They'd been travelling for a while now, and Pyrrha noticed that Ruby didn't sleep much at all while they were on the road.  She had a feeling that she knew quite well WHY that was, but she hoped that tonight, when they'd found an inn along the road, that that might change.  

Pyrrha, Ruby, and Nora were sharing a room, and while her other teammate had gone to sleep fairly easily, Pyrrha had stayed up, keeping watch over all of them, especially Ruby.  Maybe she could finally get some restful sleep, if she knew she was safe.

But the other girl hadn't been asleep for very long before she bolted up in the bed, reaching out for her weapon, her breathing panicked, erratic.  Pyrrha was out of her seat as soon as she saw Ruby moving, her arms wrapping around the other girl and pulling her into a (hopefully) reassuring hug.

The redhead promised that nothing could hurt her while she was here, and while she didn't know that for certain, she would do everything in her power to keep that promise.  Ruby meant a lot to her, and if there was one thing she could do, it was FIGHT to keep those she cared about safe.  

Ruby's own arms wrapped around Pyrrha, and after a few moments, the taller girl heard Ruby's muffled words, asking her not to leave.

A small smile slipped onto her face when she heard what Ruby had said, and Pyrrha pressed a kiss to the top of Ruby's head, giving her a soft squeeze.

"I'm not going anywhere," she promised.  "I'll be right here."  She would watch over Ruby, whether or not she managed to sleep, and she would keep her safe.  No matter the cost.

Pyrrha both had and had not been looking forward to this dance.  She knew that the rest of her team was excited about the prospect, which meant that she wanted it to go as well as possible, but she also knew that she'd be spending most of it alone.  Still, she had made sure to get all dressed up to attend; she wouldn't want to disappoint Jaune, Ren, and Nora.  They were some of her best friends, and she wanted them to have the best time they could, without having to worry about her.

While everyone was dancing, Pyrrha headed up to the balcony to get a little bit of fresh air, and to have a moment to herself.

After a few minutes, she heard footsteps on the stairs behind her.  Turning to see who it was, she saw the familiar form of Ruby, looking as uncomfortable as Pyrrha felt.  She offered the other girl a little smile.

"Hello, again," she greeted her.  "Not enjoying the dance?"  It seemed that Ruby might be in the same sort of situation that she was, and she wanted to make sure that she was all right.

Todays gift seems different, but - somehow not so much. She comes by, with a selection of 4-5 different pictures, most of them are scribbles and colorings of both herself, yang and him and Tai all together doing various things, going the beach, walking the dog or even baking. But there is a specific one, of Qrow drawn by himself, with his cape covered in glitter and there are lots of stickers with the badly written word ' my favorite hero ' as the title. <3

"These are all really good, Rubes." Qrow grinned as he flipped through them. "Are they for the fridge or for-" His breath caught when he saw the last picture. My favorite hero. Qrow swallowed hard, and turned back to Ruby, blinking away the tears. "Or for me?"

When Ruby affirmed they were for Qrow, he put the ones of the family in a special notebook to keep them nice. The last one, however, was slipped into the front sleeve of his teaching binder, the one he used daily at Signal.

Gift time! She came right over, almost tripping from her own loose lace from her shoes - but held onto his leg for support. She's covered in sand - and dirt, and her clothes are a little wet too - "I found pretty things!" She raises up the small glass cup, offering him the many shells and little shiny pebbles. <3

Qrow picked both it and the sandy little girl up, knowing that he was probably going to get a stern talking to for letting her play in the water in her shoes and clothes. Kids were very determined to fall in water, and it wasnt like it was going to take long for Ruby's clothes to dry.

Chuckling, Qrow held the glass up to the light and looked through it. "Wow! You sure found a lot of these! Lets double check and make sure no one's home in these shells and then we'll go find Yang and your pops. I think he said something about lunch time soon."

Winter was surprised when she looked up and found Ruby there. “Hello, Ruby.” She said. She didn’t know her sister’s team all that well, but she knew that anyone who was kind to her sister had to be kind themselves, so she offered her a small smile. “Is there something you need?”
