The Old Rose Nursery Northiam.
I am really lucky to be a horticulturalist in Sussex, we have not only some of the best gardens in the country, I may be biased, we also have a couple of excellent specialist nurseries.
One such nursery is The Old Rose Nursery, on Beales Lane , Northiam. tucked away down Beales Lane, it's about a mile from Great Dixter and the centre of Northiam. The nursery was established in 1972 by the present proprietor john Banham, though John's grandfather and father also ran a nursery on the site from 1966. Indeed John's family seem to have roses in their blood as a picture of John's grandfather, working in a field of roses in Wokingham, hangs just inside the door to the office.
John himself grew up pruning, training and grafting roses since he was 10 years old, at a rose nursery in Brensit. In the 80's he began grafting for the prestigious firm David Austin. his expansive knowledge of roses and experience is evident to anyone visiting the nursery and lucky enough to talk with him. John will search out your favourite roses or suggest fantastic new introductions that will thrive in your garden.
I really appreciate all of Johns knowledge and his high quality roses , he is eager to help you and suggest the right way forward for your desired plantings. also he sells very good roses for very reasonable prices, right now there are a few of last years stock which are being sold off at a discount ! Plus all of this years stock is arriving now fresh for autumn planing .
John also provides you with expert planting , training and pruning instruction to allow you to take the reigns of the cultivation of your roses, meaning you will get many years of enjoyment from them .
