So I love your ideas about gender bent Bamon! I'd planned on doing something a little lighter since Effervescent is pretty dramatic, but you've totally given me things to think about! Your input is amazing tell me more!!!
Aw, no problem! I think you could easily pull off something lighter, given that it’s essentially genderbent Bamon - take the characters seriously, but perhaps not the situation they’re stuck in? (I love comedy, so off the top of my head: fem!Damon trying to buy a present for Stefan but miserably failing so she drags male!Bonnie into helping her, fem!Damon judging male!Bonnie’s choice in girlfriends SUPER HARD, etc etc. I could even see a series of one-shots about “a day in the life,” should you go that route.)
Since Bonnie will be raised as a boy, how does that affect her? Will he be the star of the football team / soccer team / something sports-y? Or will he be an AV nerd or the editor of the school yearbook? (None of this is mutually exclusive; I knew boys who were editor of the yearbook and captain of the soccer team.) Also, are Bonnie’s friends also genderbent? Will you have male!Caroline and male!Elena tagging along for the ride, or would he have fallen in with Matt & Tyler and & Jeremy? (I’d imagine he’d even be a Momma’s Boy, having been raised by a female!Rudy.) If everyone’s genderbent, then how do male!Caroline and male!Elena differ from their canon counterparts?
Could female!Damon even terrify male!Bonnie the same way that Damon scared Bonnie in s1? I don’t have an answer for you for any of these rn; that’s something you might want to address down the line.
Their dynamic may not be turned on its head, but their world definitely is - female!Damon would experience a ton of sexism, but male!Bonnie would only suffer racism (as he’s now a dude). It’s not “oh look fem!Damon is Damon but hotter,” it’s “how would their swapped genders affect their universe?” Those changes would be far-reaching too, I’d think.
For instance, how would it look for a 17 year old to date someone in their mid 20′s / clearly out of high school? TVD didn’t really cover this, but they sure should have.
(This is getting kind of long - and I’m happy to keep rambling! I just made this public because I figured it might help someone else down the road too.)
