There's a Giraffe in my Soup by Ross Burach
I saw this one on a literary agent's MSWL, so put in an order at the library to see why she loved it.
The book is written and illustrated by the same person, and it was plain to see. My favourite part were the pictures of an increasingly frazzled waiter who returns with a new injury with each dish (beginning with a sole Band-Aid, and winding up with bandages and crutches). And the owner of the restaurant being called Sonia (for obvious reasons!).
I think the illustrations were stronger than the writing, which is something I've seen mentioned in other reviews.
Not bad for a debut!
