“Why do you keep calling me a baby!” Mikey whines, absolutely not helping his case.
“Oh that’s easy." Leo drawls in response. "I’ve got Big Brother, brother who is biggest.” He gestures to Raph. “Twin Brother, brother who is twin.” He drapes one arm around an unimpressed Donnie’s shoulders. “And Baby Brother, brother who is baby.” With his other arm he reaches forward to condescending pat Mikey on the head.
Donnie lifts his head from his coffee mug, voice neutral but face sporting a smirk. “Does that make you Middle Brother, brother who is Mid?”

I had an absolutely horrible, disgusting idea for a one-shot.
Donnie somehow manages to reach Leo, to launch him back through the portal and save him from his own self-sacrificial stupidity. And traps himself in the process.
And they can't save him.
For years.
Until finally they find a way. They DO save him!
But the prison dimension froze him in time. He didn't suffer, he isn't any more injured than when he went in.
He was in stasis.
But his family was not.
For years they mourned. For years they were broken. For years, they thought he would never come back to them.
And, over the years, they moved forward.
How do you come back to a life that has left you behind? How do you return to a family for whom your very existence is an open wound? How do you recover from a world changing experience that never touched you, that you don't even remember?
How do you live, when your loved ones have learned to love without you?
I love all the missing brother angst but I've been thinking.
What if? It was funny instead?
What if the missing bro was raised by Draxum, who regularly sends him out on multi-dimensional missions to find other ways to defeat all humans. You know, since one super soldier on their own probably won't cut it. (We already know Draxum has knowledge of how to access other planes/dimensions, and there's even that mysterious portal stone in front of his lab beside the one that leads to New York.)
And what if he got sent off on his latest mission right before the start of the series.
Assuming his missions are long, like 1-2 years on average, for maximum data collection in each new place, he wouldn't get back until after the events of the show, possibly even the movie.
So, like, what if he gets back and it's just…

And suddenly this poor kid has to speedrun a redemption arc that took his dad the better part of a year to get through. All while processing the fact that his family has suddenly quadrupled in size and one of them is a human??? And he has two dads now??????
I imagine that just as he's finally getting used to…everything, Draxum casually mentions Frida and he just goes FUCK THIS and moves in with, like, Cassandra or something. Like seriously Draxum you can't keep springing family members on this poor kid! He's tired!

Fun little AU idea I might rotate in my brain for a bit:
A separated AU where Splinter still managed to save 4 turtles. Only now, instead of four sons, he has three sons and a daughter (Frida).
And Raph takes her place as Big Mama's assistant/bodyguard.
If we continue with the canon premise that none of Splinters kids, and presumably Splinter himself, know about their missing piece. And Raph is wearing a similar masked disguise to the one worn by Frida in the show. Then how would the events of the show unfold differently? How about the movie?
And furthermore what would the team dynamic be like? Who's the eldest, now? Who would be the leader? What role would Frida play, not only in the team but in the family as a whole? What's her personality like, now that she hasn't grown up under Big Mamas thumb.
And what's Raph's personality like now that he has?
