Woof. What a hike!!!
Tomorrow we are gonna try for mum and dad's if it's not too crazy on the trails.
Having previously been to the Balkans on our last big road trip across Europe we had fallen in love with the people, the myriad of cultures, the Balkan way of life and above all the freedom. When it came to deciding where our next road trip would take us we felt the East pulling us inextricably back.
We felt we needed to see more of this unique corner of Europe, so we began planning a route that would take us through the interior countries of the Balkan Peninsula, all of those which we’d had to regrettably miss out last time due to the snow and ice. On top of this, we felt there were areas of some other countries we’d previously visited that the cold winter weather had also denied us access to.
For over a year we plotted and planned, scrolling obsessively through maps and organising meet ups with people, seeking out ideas for photography projects.
So here it is- our Balkan Winter 2019 route plan. Of course, there’s only so much planning you can really do, as we like to consider a road trip more a series of detours and adventures.
But our route will take us through the countries as follows:
France (French Alps) // Italy (Dolomites) // Slovenia // Hungary // Serbia // Romania (revisit) // Kosovo // North Macedonia // Greece (revisit) // Turkey (if our funds will stretch that Far East) // Greece // Albania (revisit) // Bosnia & Herzegovina (if they’ll let us in this time)
A lot of these countries we know virtually nothing about, which is what excites us so much about visiting and getting to discover what makes them unique.
Does anyone have any recommendations for these countries? Sights we shouldn’t miss? Interesting photo documentaries? Or maybe you just wanna meet up and say hi- let us know!
