Rowan and Claire - “I can’t believe you talked me intothis.”
Rowan wondered, not for the first time, how Claire hadtalked her into this. The smaller woman apparently had a way with her admittedlyfew words. Ugh maybe it was the way Claire had looked at her when she said thatneither Maya nor Olivine could go, and Kia had something go down that preventedher from helping out.
That had to be it. It couldn’t have anything to do with thefact that Rowan thought she was really pretty and didn’t want to feel thesadness radiating off her. Maybe. Maybe Claire just had a really goddamn cutesmile when Rowan did things for her and Rowan liked that smile.
“I can’t believe you talked me into coming to a conspiracytheory convention. How did you manage to do that?” Rowan asked, carrying a boxfull of papers and string.
Claire smiled. “Because you think I’m pretty and like it when I smile at you.”
Rowan started grinning. “Yeah. You’re right.”
Quincy and Elian – “You heard me. Take. It. Off.” SuperheroAU
“I found him!” Elian looked up from the pile of rubble hewas looking through over to where Viper was moving part of a wall. “The Walker’sback here!” she called, dropping the wall away from the hero trapped behind it.
The thud the wall made when it hit the ground matched thesinking feeling in Elian’s stomach. He and the older hero didn’t get along allthat well, sure, but he didn’t want this to happen to him.
Elian made it to Viper’s side just as she was moving anotherpiece of the wall, pulling it away from the older hero. He could see blood, butnot how much there was, and he helped move some rubble away from the man’shead. His helmet was damaged, and Walker had blood coming from his nose and acrosshis mouth.
“We have to take it off,” he whispered, moving his hand tothe man’s helmet.
“What did you say?” Viper asked, snagging his hand.
“You heard me. Take. It. Off.” Elian yanked his hand backand carefully – very carefully – lifted Walker’s head and slid his helmet off, gently placing it back down. He was still breathing, though it sounded painful.Elian stared. It couldn’t be. There was no way.
The shades the Walker wore were still on, but Elian would recognizethat face anywhere. It couldn’t be Quincy. The man had given no indication ofbeing a hero.
