I have an oni headcanon that I thought of last night and completely forgot to post it till now.
So we know from season 8 that there are the 3 oni masks, right? Hatred, vengeance, and deception. Those are the 3 types of onis. It explains how they get and use their powers.
Mystake was one of deception which is why she could shape-shift so easily and could use her tea to deceive someone.
Garmadon is one of hatred. He explained that when trying to teach Lloyd and why when he lost christofern, he fully transformed from how angry he was.
Lloyd is one of vengeance, which is why when Garmadon tried to teach him to "channel his anger through his face," it didn't do anything. And he could only use that side after thinking his father died. As a way to "avenge" him. To get back at the overlord for what he did
I have no idea if they ever mention this in the show so just ignore if they did
