The Getter Robo is a big dumb palooka of a robot and I love them.

HEY for some reason I just cant start this morning without letting you all know if you like big dumb robot fights to watch Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact!

It takes all the nonsensical unexplained elements of the original Mazinger and gives it all an almost JUST as nonsensical backstory and adds even more characters that don’t even have robots but they’re still INSANE AND GREAT.

It didnt get a sequel OVA for Great Mazinger and that’s one of life’s greatest tragedies.

Getter Robo Watchable Episodes

Old mecha is GREAT! But a lot of times they're 50+ episodes and a lot of them are the fillerest filler. But I have a pretty high tolerance for old bad super robot shows, so I’m gonna take that bullet and whenever I watch some old classic mecha I’ll keep track of which episodes you can skip!

I’m starting with Getter Robo because it’s my fav franchise. Keep in mind, the only subs I could find are VERY bad. The first few episodes had good ones, so I hope whoever did those is still working on the rest of the series.

Oh also, if you can find fan-translations of the original Getter Robo MANGA? Please read them. The manga serieses all tell a much better overarching story then the animes do. Getter Robo Go in particular gets WILD and is unrecognizable to the mediocre anime.

Special: Great Mazinger Vs. Getter Robo - watch whenever really. It’s just a fun little movie with the Getter team having a friendly rivalry with Tetsuya Tsurugi and fight a monster alien together.

I wanted the list to be a LITTLE shorter but honestly there were a lot of good moments, character episodes, and some actually interesting Dinosaur Empire Generals-of-the-week. The toughest call I had to make was including the WORST character in the franchise, Bunji. He sucks. He’s Bad comic relief. But he’s in the final 2 episodes, so I had to also include his introductory episodes so you wouldn’t be confused by this idiot at the very end. But every other episode with him in it is GONE and I didn’t finish watching most of them. If there were any super cool moments in those episodes I skipped I can’t imagine they’re worth putting up with Bunji for any longer than we have to.

ANYWAY, I hope this list helps anyone on the fence about looking into original Getter Robo. There’s a lot of fun to be had if you can get past the clunky animation and bad subtitles.
