It’s crazy how people can diss you for liking such a wonderful animal. “It’s not a dog, so it doesn’t matter.” “It’s not as snuggly as a cat, so it doesn’t matter.” Sure, they aren’t snuggling with you because they aren’t your human, but they can love and snuggle as much as they want. It depends on you. I love these guys endlessly. Particularly, these four. I can’t believe they’ve been with me for two years now. My babies. I’m sad. I miss her so much. I miss her sweet self and how she was just so social. She loved her kitty, and her kitty loved her back. Mari has definitely noticed she’s not here. I can’t even explain the absurd friendship they shared. Rowling was the sweetest, most social and most “broken” hedgehog I ever met. She was so ridiculously sweet, so different from your average hedgie... And I am so upset that she’s not here anymore. I’m sick about it... 😰 I can’t get this feeling out of my throat... It’s “just a hedgehog” is such an untrue statement. She was the BEST hedgie. Yes, Fox is my heart hog, but Rowling brought me something that no other hog ever can or will... Rowling, nearly two years ago, your fantabulous dorky little self found your way into my life. At the time, you were angry. You hadn’t been held much, and were forced to carry at least one litter of hoglets. You were crammed in a tiny cage, and permanently kept with your daughters, and even though it normally doesn’t end well, it worked for you. You were the protective mom, who didn’t want to be touched. You were huge, and spiky, and very huffy. You barely came out of your ball... yet, thirteen months after you entered my life, something in you changed. You went from being an overly defensive hedgehog to one that tolerated other beings. Even when you were grumpy, you still wanted to hold onto my fingers as tight as you could and never let go. When you finally came around, you showed that you loved belly rubs, and you loved your wormies. You would even sit there and beg for them. Slowly, you grew to love me more and more, and eventually, you became my best bud. When I was recovering both physically and emotionally during a pretty trying time, you were there and snuggled with me the entire time. The best nurse around... Rowling, I feel you don’t have long left with me. Your eyesight is completely gone. You walk around aimlessly, as though you have a neurologically-deteriorating disease. But, you still walk around (never run) as though you’re on a mission. You still happily chow down on your wet food as soon as it’s served to you. You still are so happy to greet me when I come in. And you are just so incredibly sweet, tolerant, social, and happy. I love you my little potato. The BEST potato.
