Eurovision Fact #238:
During rehearsals and non-televised performances for the 2021 contest, there were quite a few technical issues.
Maltese, Ukrainian, and Romanian contestants had issues with their ear pieces that made the performers sound very off-tempo with their songs. This lead to each of the performers getting the opportunity to sing their songs a second time.
On the more serious side of things, Sammarinese representatives Senhit and Flo Rida we're put in physical danger as a result of a technical malfunction with their set. The duo performed on a rotating platform which failed to stop at the appropriate time, forcing Senhit to jump off of it.
San Marino RTV complained heavily about this as the jury performance was heavily flawed due to this malfunction. Jury members were not aware of the incident as they voted. Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl assured the delegation that everything in their power would be done to protect the Sammarinese performers. Still, San Marino RTV gave their performers the opportunity to withdraw out of serious concerns for physical safety. The performers did not take this offer, however, and went on to perform in the live show.
