The kid had spunk, Alex had to admit, smirking back at the other’s actions. He glanced at the digital watch on his wrist-though he didn’t really need to, but it wouldn’t do to give away the fact he had more exclusive tech at his disposal.
“I don’ much work with strangers, either; but we’re both here now an’ we might as well…come to an understandin’. Otherwise, we will inevitably get in each other’s way”, he shrugged coolly. Twenty seconds, twenty five…”Which would be bad for both of us”, he continued smoothly. Thirty seconds…and a series of floodlights came online, their blinding light turning the dark gardens to almost daytime.Voices rang out in the distance, along with the baying howls of bloodhounds on the prowl.
“An’ that’s why I didn’ even try to pick that lock”, Alex smiled amusedly.”Wanna come over here an’ to the cover of shadows?” he asked coolly.”I figure we have a couple of minutes before the guards come to check the front gate; an’ we need tonot be here when they do, needless to say”.
He knew the man was right; they had to at least discuss a few things before diving in. “Fine. What things are you after?” he asked bluntly, aiming to the issue that would matter most. But before the other had the chance to answer, various loud sounds and voices arose from inside the yard, none of them seemed affable. As though it wasn’t enough, the cacophony was coupled with extreme light, reaching almost to where they were standing.
Nick immediately took some hasty steps back, away from the gate, his lips mouthing a silent ‘Fuck’. The boy gave the stranger an irritated glare, his gloating almost making him say that this was totally not his fault. But the less the man knew how Nick--and the organization--works, the better. So he kept his mouth shut, and clicked the padlock back to its locked position.
Then, still few feet away from the other so he could not possibly see, Nick whipped out his phone and furiously typed in:
[text]: YOU CALL URSELF A PRO GDI GREEN
[text]: Check the others asap. Mixed up?
As soon as the text got sent, he erased it, and joined the man in the shadows. “They might check over the gates, we have to keep moving to avoid them.” They should keep a certain distance as the guards patrolled, and then maybe they could try other entries.
