background:

oldest child of the choi house, grew up knowing that she would one day carry the house legacy and lavabending secrets, and thus was prepared by her parents for the role since she was a young child.

as a result always put a lot of pressure on herself to exceed her parents' expectations and present herself as the perfect heiress, never allowed herself to show strong emotions in front of other people, is the perfect image of what a lady should be.

because the royal house forbade house choi to teach lavabending to anyone outside of their house/royals nara has received marriage proposals ever since she was a child. many noble houses have tried to marry their kids to her as a way to bring lavabending into their family/bloodline.

her parents were adamant that their kids would marry for love, not for political reasons, but the constant harassment turned nara mistrustful of other people.

became a firebending instructor and quite liked the role until her parents died within months of each other recently, so she had to step down to become the head of the house.

still teaches lavabending to any royal who might want in between her duties, but has started to pass along the teaching to her youngest siblings so she can focus on running the house.

opposes the house yi as she believes that knowledge should be shared, and so hates that she can't teach lavabending to people outside of the choi and yi houses.

hello, I am excited to introduce everyone to my lady, yue wanning.

she is twenty-five years old, the eldest child of house yue. they oppose house yi's ruling and patiently await the opportunity to rise against the royal family. wanning joined the yuyan archery force young and rose through the ranks with time and diligence. she's the captain of the yuyan archers now and wishes to train the force until it is powerful enough to slay a dragon.

(note the dragon mentioned here does not refer to an actual dragon - she has love and respect for those intelligent beings and means only to take down the yi family.)

at home or during social gatherings, wanning dresses to accentuate her youth and beauty. she is fond of flowers and has a captivating dance that she's only shown to a few. she is also skilled with head massages, which she uses on her family members and any archers in need. the fact she is a captain does not make her forget her feminine side, and she considers herself as much a loving daughter and sister as she is a leader.

on the battlefield, she shows her enemies no mercy. due to her smaller structure, wanning is most efficient at ranged combat. she uses her agility as well as flexibility to her advantage when forced into close-range brawls and excels at stealth missions. as a captain, she is good at assessing the situation and strategizing with her archers. she cares deeply about those around her and would not hesitate to risk herself for any of her people.

a secret: wanning's health is not the best. she does not allow it to show much in public but secretly requires herbal brews daily. winters are particularly difficult for her, and she must wear many layers to retain heat. she is strict with her siblings and urges them to excel at firebending or archery for this reason - if one day she must leave the world early, the yue family must be protected.

♡          haeun’s position within her family has created a complex character left to navigate the uncertainty of who she is . the eldest daughter , the middle child – constantly eclipsed by her elder sibling in the eyes of her mother . when once she fought for the limelight , she now prefers the slink around in the shadows , aware that when you’re in the cool shade you’re less likely to burn up .

♡          she was a dedicated student as a child , stubbornly learning as much as possible so that she could never be looked down upon . she took many musical lesson and is adept with several instruments , the piano being her first love .

♡          her piano teacher was a strict and straightforward elderly man who slowly began to fill the father figure in her early teen years , after the loss of her father at seven . while she was very young when he passed , she felt more seen and appreciated by him.

♡          despite being grateful and , of course , loving her father , there is still complex emotions around the man . she had once overheard him make comments about her and her older brother , disappointed that he couldn’t firebend and she was a female .  she had never told anyone about this , especially considering it was so near to his passing , but it left her with an uncertainty – were they loved ? or was being part of a family just fulfilling pre-written roles ?

♡          for this reason , haeun is particularly suspicious of everyone . her eyes are keen and she enjoys watching people expose themselves at moments when they think is safe .  

 ♡         due to her brother’s fame and familial connections , haeun has been given opportunities to play piano at concerts . however , she avoids it as much as possible , only agreeing to when pressured by her family . she much prefers to play as support for singers or just for companions for fun .

♡          haeun has a very sweet singing voice , she loves to sing but she will never ( knowingly ) sing to another . sometimes she writes her own music , but once again , it is hidden from the rest of the world.

♡          she is a stark supporter of the house of yi , not because of who they are but because she believes the only way to prosper is to have a strong lead . haeun has an interest in politics  but would rather watch other people’s actions and reactions to see who align with her beliefs rather than be an open book in this aspect .

♡          her stubbornness is both a curse and a blessing – to her , she sees it as determination . but to those who have seen that ugly side rear it’s head , they know sometimes she blinds herself to reality to keep from herself being wrong . at least , the few that she allows close enough know that she would never give them up .

Hello! Below you will find some important info on Sangwon as I further flesh him out in the coming days (busy time of the year, so I’m a bit behind on things). You will also find a few wanted connections or plots if interested. Can’t wait to get started writing with you all! Simply like this post and I will dm you to plot.

Yi Sangwon is part of the Crescent Island family and is the youngest child of 3 siblings.

Being a noble child always comes with expectations. Sangwon has always been told how to behave and what to do. Sometimes he feels more like a puppet than an actual person, and that is one of many reasons why he volunteered as tribute for house Yi. He is trying to break free and choose a path for himself.

Sangwon has always been rather cold on the outside, having a hard time showing emotions and the like. He prefers to keep a safe distance between him and other people. The only people he shows a softer side to are his siblings. He might not always tell them, but they hold great significance in his life. Which is also another reason why he volunteered. The final push for him to actually apply as a tribute came after Sangwon found out his sister would be a tribute. He decided to volunteer immediately after, wanting to prevent his brother from being chosen too. 

Although Sangwon is a skilled fire bender and well acquaintance with arrow and bow, he is still very young and has much more to learn. However, he believes he can win the 25th Agni Kai. Sangwon is confident in his abilities and winning is one of his main goals because this could be his chance at proving to everyone his worth, but also to make a name for himself that exceeds the one already set for him.

WANTED CONNECTIONS AND PLOTS

A deeper established relationship with members of house Yi. (especially with his siblings please I beg,,,)

A really close friend who Sangwon grew up with. They share the same interests and are practically inseparable. This person knows Sangwon better than anybody else does and has been witness to Sangwon’s much softer side.

His mentor. It would be nice to explore this dynamic and perhaps form a closer blond that might be rough on the outside, but deep down has a more caring nature, even if not directly displayed.

Current or Ex lover/crush(?). Something more romantic. Though, Sangwon has a hard time expressing intimacy. Perhaps this could lean more into something angsty, maybe even toxic, depending on their dynamic. There could have been a fight over him volunteering as a tribute because he might die. I’m open to anything really as long as there is a heavy plotting involved for this connection.

Enemy or Rival. Sangwon is quite competitive and due to the fact he is rather cold and appears slightly arrogant people tend to misunderstand him and his intentions. So having an enemy or a rival wouldn’t be unusual for someone like Sangwon.

born into the zhao family, yuankai was always surrounded by the belief that strength was the most important thing following honor. the ability to fight and lead was only ever a chance given if one could prove their strength.

yuankai is the person that he is today because of the blood, sweat and tears he's put into every step of his life. every decision - every thought - done so with perfect and planned execution. he turned good into great, and great into grand.

those who trained alongside yuankai in the army knew him to be push limits. however, things changed drastically following the death of his betrothed at age 22. watching your fiance lose not only their honor but their life in a tournament wasn't exactly what someone would sign up for.

after the death of his fiance, everything from yuankai's views on the agni kai to his demeanor in every aspect of life changed completely. he became ruthless. rose through the ranks and pushed to extremes earning himself a hell of a reputation.

PERSONALITY

he's a pretty aloof. has a rbf and the cold personality to go with it but in all honesty has chilled a lot in comparison to his younger years.

what that means is he kind of jokes actually! through sarcasm. but it's very deadpan. everything about him is pretty deadpan tbh.

when it's not work related, yuankai is pretty amicable (as much as he can get). if it's anything work related though, yuankai becomes 'all work and no play'.

yuankai is ruthless. a cold blooded killer. they say nothing in the empire goes unnoticed under the hawk eyes of the military. don’t you say, you should be a little more careful about the things you do in the dark ?   ( someone being suspicious )

he has no choice but to be a spectator. after all, the games are a revel for everyone to enjoy are they not? however, yuankai is far from fond of the tournament after losing not only his sibling but his past fiance as well. how pitiful for you .   ( a tribute )

the way that he is, yuankai is often misunderstood. a moment of sarcasm flies over heads and a moment of seriousness is misinterpreted. not that it’s your fault - after all, no one is really able to discern the difference in the two when yuankai expresses them. but here you are and here yuankai is, wondering why you stood him up for the dinner he invited you to .   ( a friend or acquaintance )

seryeong is going through some spiritual stuff! he's always been deeply aligned with the beliefs and traditions of the royal family. in fact, so much so that he was completely ready to take place as one of the tributes for this year's tournament. something he had looked forward to for years but there was a shift in his dynamic with his dragon that changed everything during the process of his considerations.

his decision and desire to become a tribute hurriedly wavered and seryeong was faced with a lot of different truths and realities from different perspectives he had never had. in a moment's hesitation, he choose to become a mentor instead to fulfill a part of the wish to partake in the tournament somehow.

seryeong has lived a pampered life. privileged maybe, but nevertheless pressuring and overwhelming as well. things always came naturally to seryeong which has made life easy to navigate but it's also taken away a key thing - his identity.

from his role as the crown prince to who he is as an individual, seryeong seems to be the pillar and image of what everyone would expect a crown prince to be. but in building that pillar, seryeong doesn't quite realize how hard it's been to hear his own voice amongst all the hundreds of voices that speak to and for him.

PERSONALITY

at his mature age, seryeong is having some trouble with identifying his true self right now but he's pretty resilient through and through.

has great energy, and a pretty playful personality in comparison to what most seem to hear about the 'serious' crown prince.

he's pretty friendly all around but don't mistake that for trust or kindness! those are lengths that people really have to travel to be able to genuinely receive from seryeong. even then it's a little hard to tell who seryeong considers a 'true' friend when it comes down to it.

please welcome house choi's middle child (along with her twin), choi aera! contrary to the tendency of her house of learning lavabending, she preferred to focus and hone her bender abilities into the healing field instead of the combat one because she's the support type of character through and through (she really really really doesn't want to be sent to the battlefield and fight if house sungold or house yi ever makes them fight, help), thankfully the universe smiled at her and, even though she isn't the best healer you'll ever meet, she can do her job quite alright! under the cut more info about her past + personality and a couple of plot ideas!

choi aera. 25 y/o. firebender & healer. awakened her bending abilities at 10 y/o and as much as it was fun to incorporate fire bending into her daily life and how much she learned about herself in that process, she doesn't really enjoy the combative part of bending.

half because she does value peace and half because she isn't really good at conflicts especially when they end up getting physical (which is super ironic considering she's from a military house); hates the idea of getting hurt but also honestly would give up a limb if it meant she didn't have to go through an agni kai.

likes to daydream about a lot of scenarios in this very "seeing the world through rosé colored lenses" type of way and sometimes can even seem like an airhead, even more so with how softspoken she is; daydreams about some noble from another house coming to sweep her feet away at least five times a day, dreams of saying goodbye to her family (or even the fire nation) to live her own adventure another ten times but honestly lacks the courage to really do so.

in the end she likes the comfort and familiarity of what she already knows too much to really abandon it for the unknown. but it doesn't mean!! she won't enable others to chase after their own dreams no matter how unrealistic they are!! yes, @/head of house [redacted], go elope with that [redacted] commoner, aera will be rooting for you!!

loves loves loves to live vicariously through other people so pls tell her everything while she does a check up on your chi paths!!

does a lot of wishful thinking too, in this "everything will be alright in the end and if it isn't ok yet then it's because this isn't the end" way.

wasn't really the troublemaker type when growing up and much more like the good kid that wanted to be praised by her parents especially, but she liked fairy tale/fantastic sort of stories since then. i imagine playing pretend with her was super fun because her imagination was wild.

grew up as a mommy's girl through and through, going out of her way to spend time with mom when she was still alive (from unprompted and not so unprompted tea time, to bringing books so mom could read to her or asking to be taught this specific fire bending technique, etc etc) and showing off her results to her was motivation for aera to work hard 99% of the time; so it obv hit aera hard when she died, much more than her dad's death did (oop).

for the longest time she thought that she could've done something to prevent their deaths and that's why she almost started studying to be a doctor instead of a healer; still got into the study of herbs/potions for a while but she's no expert in neither of those areas; she knows the basics and that's pretty much it.

her mourning is mostly over at this point, but sometimes it still hits her very hard; that also made her mature a lot pretty quickly and now she keeps most to her more dreamy part of her personality to herself or to the people she lets in her inner social circle because she also closed herself off a lot more even though she does seem as friendly as ever.

overall a very sweet girl with sweet dreams but zero backbone (and actual desire, i guess) to chase them!

doesn't really like house yi because she feels they put way too much pressure/restraints on her family due to their ability to lavabend and wished that a "kinder" royal family ruled them instead.

wanted connections

fave client ! someone who always has the best stories to tell while she does her work on them. regardless of whether they're true or not, she's always looking forward to work for them because it means she gets to hear what adventure they got (or will get) themselves next!

childhood/teenage friends ! someone that not only knew aera before the tragedy with her parents but also was close to her and saw firsthand how the light in her eyes dimmed with what happened. someone that she feels like she can count on to this day or maybe they drifted apart at some point for some reason and now they're trying to reconnect (successfully or it's just very very awkward)

crushes ! she's much more in love with the idea of love (esp one that comes straight out of a love story) more than anything else + is very weak to good looking people so she gets infatuated with anyone pretty easily. i imagine she has an endless list of people she crushed on (but then falls out of it very easily too); people she's more in love with the idea of them than the person themselves.

the one that got away ! talking about which!! someone that she was in a relationship with but then it never got too far for any reasons— aera's immaturity with actual love, the other person's own shortcomings, maybe they were right for each other but met at the wrong time, etc etc, but it's still someone that she keeps in a very special spot on her heart, making her go wild with what ifs in her head. the one she'll always love (maybe in a first love or that one special summer affair sort of way) regardless of anything else.

older sibling energy/knight in shining armor ! as much as aera reaches out to look after people, she also has this energy of can't be left alone (affectionate but also a little derogatory). aera just feels like someone who'd fall for scams every and anywhere with how easily she genuinely believes that this really random guy is part of the earth nation's fallen royal family and traveled all around the world to hide themselves while collecting wealthy and knowledge so now they're looking for a new spouse to rebuild their dynasty with. basically someone who can't help but feel protective over her.

a non-bender and lord ito was not happy about it, and thus never bothered to hide it.

grew up closer to his mother, who was also a non-bender, and as a child was clingy and prone to scared of everything, prone to crying at the smallest things.

forced by lord ito to learn martial arts from a young age. mother decided to teach him how to fight using the two sword style (her family was a known clan of swordsmen and she was an excellent one).

mother dies when he's 12, starting a very dark period in his life in which the only thing that held him together was learning how to become a swordsman.

is pretty much left alone by lord ito and his second wife (who he marries less than a year after his first wife dies) and prefers it that way.

grows up raised by servants and fighting masters and thus has more appreciation for them than for most of his family.

inherits his mother's swords, peace keeper (black sheath) and heavenly punishment (red sheath) and joins the military for a while before becoming part of the royal guard at age 25.

impartial to house yi, couldn't care less about who sits at the throne and is only part of the royal guard bc he has to deal with less people than at the military.

personality:

expects the worst out of everyone at all times and can't see genuine goodness in anyone.

used to being looked down upon due to being a non-bender, so he isn't the nicest person towards firebenders.

tends to be nicer to women (or at least less rude).

it's a open secret that his father kept a mistress (who later became his second wife) throughout most of his marriage, and suguru still blames himself for being born a non-bender and in his eyes causing his father to cheat on his mother.

so touch starved it's painful, if anyone touched him with gentleness he'd probably cry.
