I got in line at 5am to be first in line to get my hands on this beauty!!
Lenny Bruce is easily one of my favorite people, comedians, & satirists of all time. He was absolutely brilliant. He was a satire comedian who pushed limits & broke barriers in stand up comedy. He was arrested onstage multiple times for the vulgarity & obscenities in his routines.
In 1964, he went to trial in court for his obscenity & fought for freedom of speech in American comedy. The trial lasted 6 months. Lenny was convicted & was sentenced to 4 months in a workhouse, then eventually set free on bail during the appeals process. However he sadly died before the appeal was officially decided. After Lenny’s death, the conviction was overturned.
While Lenny is a huge inspiration of mine, I do want to point out that I don’t necessarily stand by ALL of his jokes & satire of that time period. You gotta keep in mind, he was around in the late 50s & early to mid 60s.. the times were different & mindsets were very different. So I don’t agree with everything he’s said in his acts. But I fully admire his guts & his fight for free speech immensely. I admire everything he did to pave the road for blue comedy, black comedy, risqué satire, & comedians in general. Without Lenny Bruce - there would have never been a George Carlin. There would have never been a Richard Pryor. Hell, there definitely wouldn’t be an Anthony Jeselnik. Lenny was a genius.
I am so thankful to have been lucky enough to get a copy of this release today. The only pressing of these to date have been the ones in the 60s that Lenny used to sell himself at his shows. This is the first pressing available in stores & to those who never saw him perform. Limited to just 1000 worldwide & I’ve got one in my hands!! 🥰
