Hey friends! I have vastly enjoyed running RSOI for the past two years, and I would like to run it again this year, provided there's enough interest! Which is the purpose of this post. Please comment on this dreamwidth post if you would be likely to sign up for this year's event. The schedule would be roughly the same as last year, with nominations starting at the end of this month, and works due in early July. Note that I'm happy to run a small exchange, I just want to know that there's enough interest to make matching feasible :)

Rare Ships!!! on Ice 2018 nominations are open!

What is this? Rare Ships!!! on Ice is a fanfic, fanart, and podfic gift exchange for rare YOI relationships of all kinds! Learn more about the event here.

The RSOI 2018 tagset will be open for nominations now through May 7. See what’s already in the tagset and learn more about how to nominate at the nominations post on Dreamwidth.

Tagset? Nominations? What?

Exchange veterans can skip the rest of this post! But if you’re new to AO3 exchanges...

In order to run assignment matching on AO3, we need a set pool of relationship “tags” to pick our offers and requests from. This is called the tagset.

We create the tagset during the nominations period, when participants submit relationship tags to the tagset. The tags are subject to mod approval - check the nominations post for more info on that.

Nominating is different from signing up! By nominating a tag, you're not committing to offering or requesting it. You’re just saying, “I’d like to be able to request or offer this once sign-ups start.”

Once sign-ups begin, you will only be able to offer or request relationships that are in the tagset. If you want to request or offer fic or art for specific pairings, you need to submit them to make sure they’re available to pick!

You should have received an email linking to your gift or gifts. You can also check your gifts page here: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/gifts

On the collection works page, you can use the sort/filter bar to find stuff you're interested in, but I'd also recommend just scrolling through everything and seeing what catches your eye! There's some really great stuff for a wide variety of ships, and you might find something you never even knew you needed.

Some reminders:

Works will be anonymous for one week! I'll reveal creators next Sunday, July 22 at 8 p.m. In the meantime, keep it secret, keep it safe.

Re-date your work so it shows up in the right spot in the fandom tags! See this post for details.

Commenting on your gift(s) is nice exchange etiquette, and is required for RSOI. See the rules post for details.

If you'll be away from the internet for a significant amount of time post-reveals, you can optionally drop a note about it at the I'll Be Away post.

If there's something wrong with your gift (meaning, it violates a DNW; doesn't meet the exchange minimum; or doesn't fit one of your requested ships or mediums) please email me ASAP at [email protected].

If you're inspired, you're welcome to submit late gifts to the collection. Most importantly, thank you, everyone! I had a blast running RSOI again, and that is entirely thanks to all of you. I was prepared for a smaller, slower event this year, considering how long it's been since the show came out. I was not prepared for our 25-person participant pool to result in 55 new rare ship works. Seeing the treats flood in over the final week made me so happy. And I'm still not over the complete lack of pinch hits -- though I know there were people waiting in the wings to snap them up if there were any! Congrats, everyone, and thank you again!

Assignments have been sent! You should have received an email from AO3 containing your assignment. You can also check your assignments on your AO3 dashboard, at this link: archiveofourown.org/users/[YOUR USERNAME]/assignments Your assignment is due on Sunday, July 8 at 8 p.m. PDT. By that point, you need to complete and post a work in one of your recipient's requested mediums for one of their requested ships. Review the Exchange Info post for the minimum work requirements, how to post, and how to default.
