There’s this building over by the Bad Circle K, not far from where I live: it’s abandoned, and someone probably four years ago chalked “Feel The Bern” on the front door. Even though I know it was probably some nineteen year old kid who didn’t vote, it was always sort of a nice thing to see; it gave me a small spark of hope every time I’d drive by and notice it.
A day or so ago, I passed the building and made note of the graffiti, and I very nearly stopped to take a picture of it, probably because Sanders has been on my mind lately due to the recent events at the polls. But the thought passed as soon as I had it, and I kept on driving. Not ten minutes later, two or three fire trucks and a handful of emergency vehicles passed me by, sirens screaming. I continued on my way, but a minute or so later I noticed a huge column of black smoke in the sky, and I turned around and followed it, visions of being Shreveport’s version of Weegee in my head.
You can probably see where this is going: the Feel The Bern building was rapidly burning down by the time I found the source of the smoke, but I managed to get a handful of shots of it being extinguished. I also learned that apparently the fire department will let you get surprisingly close to a burning building. Rubberneckers, take note!
