I don't really play straight up techno sets anymore but when I do I try to deliver many shades of it.
Selection of Cajual-Relief-Dance Mania and some more 90's Chicago House associated Labels. Recorded in one go all on Vinyl
Relief Records was created by Curtis A. Jones aka Green Velvet as an offshoot to his Cajual label back in 1993 to release a bit more hard-edged tunes. First ever release was "Velvet Tracks" this was also his first "Green Velvet" production. This EP contains 90's club classic "Preacher Man" on which a Moral Majority-type of preacher spoke (The Reverend Clarence LaVaughn Franklin - father of Aretha Franklin and ally of Martin Luther King, Jr.) After this start off Chicago based artists, Green Velvet, Paul Johnson, Gene Farris, Boo Williams, Glenn Underground, Tim Harper, Louis Bell, DJ Sneak, LA Williams, Baby Pop, Melvin Meeks, Johnny Fiasco, Joe Lewis, Gemini, DJ Rush, Markey, Lester Fitzpatrick, Trackhead Steve, Jerome Baker aka DJ Boris, Brian Harden, Vincent Floyd, DJ Spookie and DJ Skull aka Ron Maney released 79 EPs until 1997. Musical range of the label was very broad, from deep techno to abstract beats, jazz influenced house to stripped down jack beats. Within few years label has attained such "cult" status. Until the beginning of the new millennium label was defunct for about few years. Despite the new packaging and giving an opportunity to new comers to release their music on Relief, label never regained the cult status that older stuff still retains. As a big fan of this label as well as a DJ/Collector I've been lucky enough to add 72 releases off of this label out of 79 to my collection. This Relief Records tribute mix was recorded by me back in 2000-2001 somewhere in Chicago on 2x1210s and a Pioneer DJM 600 mixer with no big game plan, I was just having a ball with these bad boys. So there is not really typical rubsilent style moody deepness etc. here. It's straight up jackin bizz. Mix has been posted on the discogs board back then so it's been floating around the web for a while however in order to keep it as a reference decided to post it here as well. Mix contains only releases from 1993-1997 era. 1.Mystic Bill---The Struggle---RR779 2.Gene Farris---Excitement is Found---RR708 3.Brian Harden---Suede Keys---RR768 4.Willpower---Mo Sax---RR748 5.Louis Bell---Feel It---RR712 6.Paul Johnson---Traction---RR727 7.Louis Bell---Cross Over---RR712 8.Paul Johnson---Computer Talk---RR720 9.Trakhead Steve---Trackhead Groove---RR749 10.Paul Johnson---Stop Trippin---RR720 11.Jellybean---Modern Tribe---RR732 12.DJ78---Action78---RR753 13.Jellybean---Twilight Drone---RR732 14.Brian Harden---Come On---RR744 15.Green Velvet---Is it All Over My face---RR706 16.Paul Johnson---The Music in Me---RR709 17.Louis Bell---If You Can Dance---RR718 18.Paul Johnson---Soft Spot---RR709 19.Louis Bell---Dance With Me---RR718 20. Rubsilent a.k.a Hamza Solim is truly a vinyl junkie, he keeps talking about vinyls and how it is hard to find clubs or venues with turntables. Spent some time in Chicago and came back to his home town; Istanbul. He has his slot on Radio FG. He plays records with the roots coming from detroit and chicago, his beat match technic is like noone else in istanbul. While listening him I thank God that he sent a true vinyl soldier with a good music taste.
