I know people talk about Ruby’s story doing justice to domestic abuse narratives (which I agree) but I need more people to talk about how it shows when victims don’t shatter the illusion of care that their family has crafted because they don’t want people to know that no one will come to defend them if they’re done wrong. They’re getting abused by their loved ones, but they want to maintain strength in front of the world because they don’t want their cruelty as well.
