So hearing about how Lackadaisy was/is working with Glitch productions has me feeling a bit conflicted. Not about Lackadaisy but about Glitch. I've always been kinda iffy cuz I hated what they did to SMG4 (making unnecessary dark and brooding plots and defandomising the models namely).
but I also know Goose really wanted to make a 2D show, but at the time Glitch wanted to be exclusively 3D and pushed for Goose to make a 3D show. So knowing now that Glitch has not one, but 2 2D animated shows that they're proudly toting around... kinda feels like the rug was pulled out from not only Goose, but us as the audience? It feels kinda weird idk.
On top of that they're also trying to push TADC episodes to come out sooner so they can get the show wrapped up and make way for the new ones, which not only feels like poor business practice but is kinda cruel on the artist's behalf. If you've heard it once you've heard it before, rushing a project not only hurts the company but the artists making it. Nintendo's existence proves that much...
and I have a good feeling it's not even just about the audience being demanding, which you shouldn't be rewarding anyway, but it's also to give The Gaslight District more of a spotlight too. But that's also bad business practice??? especially with Knights of Guinevere around the corner which no doubt is going to take up the mantle next. Adding Lackadaisy onto that isn't really going to help.
I dunno it just has me feeling conflicted and distant, not towards the creators, but Glitch as a company. That isn't to say I'm not enjoying what's being made, I routinely watch TADC as it comes out and I actually enjoyed Knights of Guinevere more than I thought I would. I just feel like they're trying to keep their record spotless, but not everything is gonna be a resounding hit. I feel like as a relatively new and inexperienced company they're gonna make blunders, and with the way internet culture is today the social justice warrior hammer is gonna come down and it's gonna come down hard. (and yes I'm counting them as a new inexperienced company, it was made by two dudes with little to no company experience prior that made and reacted to memes for a living and they haven't even been around for a decade)
Maybe its me overthinking things, maybe its just me noticing patterns because I've witnessed things like this happen before. Perhaps I'm still wary because of the controversies they've already had before which were... questionably debunked? I never bothered to look into it too much. We'll just have to see where the dice land.
