The first step in choosing a rug is determining how much space it will cover. Measure your available space – including location by windows and doors- as well as any furniture on which the rug may rest; be sure these measurements are accurate. Next, determine how big you want the rug to be; how much space you plan to fill. The rug should be at least three feet larger on all sides than the total of these measurements.
Make sure the color scheme you choose for your bedroom is cohesive. If your walls are neutral, or you’d rather not include them in the design of the room, start with how you plan to furnish your bedroom, including bedding and any accent pieces. For example, if your furniture is made from oak wood and has a reddish hue that contrasts with gray walls, then select a floor rug that will mesh well with both of those colors.
