Saw this ask game about OCs and it made me think of Ruin! I miss her. Could you share stuff about her?
Oh wow, people rarely ask about Ruin so this is awesome!
Okay so Morrigan ’Ruin’ Mulryan is the reluctant mom friend. She doesn’t want to be a mom friend but she’s surrounded by relatively smart idiots. And as Amber and Shahero stated in the last chapter, Ruin is the one with a brain cell and the others should not act without her express permission (Ruin would never actually say this because freedom of choice is important, but her life would be easier if they listened to her always).
She’s also the person who carries meds and sunscreen and that kind of thing when they go out places because, again, surrounded by idiots who don’t think of things like that.
And that comes from Ruin sort of raising herself. Her parents did their duty, had the heir, and left her with the grandmother. Her grandmother was great, but she also fostered a lot of independence in Ruin and that ability to think, that the rest of the kids clearly lack.
Ruin is just savvy. She doesn’t get pulled into people’s drama, she doesn’t have time for bullshit. She’s very mature, but she was also destroy you if you cross her or her idiots. And she sort of adopts a number of people - if you’re a decent soul, chances are Ruin has somehow in her head adopted you.
When her grandmother died, she left her house to Ruin which is a nice little seaside cottage outside of Bakuten proper. Ruin doesn’t really stay there much because it’s weird living there without her grandmother and she tends to crash at her friend’s homes. Or invites them to stay with her.
Initially when I wrote SLTS she was working in a bar but I changed that to working in Sam’s garage because it works better.
She’s also recently got into making soaps and creams etc and that’s where I think her interest is going towards though she also sees value in being a mechanic. But unlike the others, she’s not as driven academically, and doesn’t have these grand desires for university or a career. Mainly because it pisses her parents off. Her mother is simply appalled that her daughter ”tinkers” with cars. They have these ideas of what a daughter of theirs should do but since they didn’t do the parent thing very well, she doesn’t see value in doing the daughter thing. Their relationship is quite like a business negotiation, gaining leverage to achieve their goals. It’s not healthy but it’s a lot better than it used to be.
The nickname Ruin came from her wilful need to lash out and ruin things when she was a kid, sort of self sabotaging in an attempt to rebel against her parents but that settled after some time in therapy understanding that it’s not her fault her parents aren’t nurturing or fit to be parents. And that she was only hurting herself, because her parents never cared.
She had really long hair until she chopped it short because it’s easier to manage and also when she dyed it, she could grow it out faster if it was horrid.
When Tala left to join Clonmel, it stung but she, unlike the others, was aware of the possibility. She was more concerned about him being at Clonmel, since it has a reputation. Which was why her reaction to him coming back wasn’t so much anger but wariness.
