So if it was the mimic instead of Gregory at the end there...

Which seems to be confirmed...

But I thought up something

Imagine Cassie waking up with a pounding headache, blood dripping from her head, she goes to say something but Roxy covers her mouth

They have to get out without the mimic hearing them

Cassie is Roxy's eyes, and Roxy helps with hearing, the vanni mask helps

They get out, perhaps get the mimic scooped, but however it happens they escape

Cassie keeps her hand tight around her mouth

Anyway I can just vividly think of Gregory and Cassie reunion and how Cassie will sob and (try to) scream at him for what she thinks he did but she also struggles with being loud, sobbing but keeping her hand there, wheezing. Roxy's there

Gregory stands there, not sure what to do and very confused

Ruin spoilers but it is speculation/theory stuff

If Gregory worked on the MXES program, I wonder if the reason Roxy has the augmented reality eyes and fixed face is because he felt bad.

And/or because Roxy was Cassie's favorite.

AND/or because of whatever reason Roxy is the final security node

In security breach Roxy has the most heartbreaking scene that Gregory would directly see.

It wouldn't surprise me if that, in combination with Roxy being his best friend's favorite led to Roxy's importance and augmented reality eyes fix.
