Momo was shaking. Her fingers dug into the flesh of her chest. It felt like her heart was giving in, crushed by her scar tissue.

A bird flew into a window pane and it broke, spraying glass over their hakama. Momo's instinct was she was in trouble, and it got away from her. She was doubled over and sweating so profusely it dripped off her nose.

She held Rukia's hand as she caught her breath, curled like talons. "I'm fine-" she choked out. "I ju-ust thought he was ma-ad."
