Who here had a Runalong as a kid (or still has one now)? A Runalong is a figure, typically an animal, that you would imagine running alongside your vehicle on long road trips, dodging or leaping over obstacles as it went. Did you have one consistent Runalong or would it change depending on the terrain or on your current interests? What was your Runalong? How did it interact with you? So apparently, when people are bored in a car and stare out the window, they start imagining runalongs.

I'm surprised by this because whenever I was bored in the car and I would stare out the window, I wouldn't imagine shit. I would usually stare at a sticker or dirty dot on the window (my family often had to switch cars due to them constantly breaking down) and that would be my "runalong". I would tilt my head to warp my perspective to make it seem like it was jumping over signs and other cars.

hidebehinds and runalongs are like. cousins or siblings or something. right? Or possibly they're just two different modes of expression for the same creature.

They're shadowy creatures following traveling humans, they're very fast and agile and adaptive to all kinds of landscapes. There's something there

I want to chase cars.

I want to feel the ground beneath my feet/paws/talons.

I want to feel the wind dance around me, ruffling feathers/fur/hair/smoke.

I want to RUN.

Random thing but here's a list of all my Runalongs (Not the series I'm making, the actual phenomenon itself):

Set Beast (?)

One of my *Original runalongs

Looks like a big, pure black dog with long ears

Runs and jumps on vehicles when we're going on a drive

Used to appear a lot, now occasionally appears

Glider

Looks kind of like a humanoid with weird arms. Also one of my *original runalongs.

Swings on telephone wires like it's a zip line

Doesn't really appear anymore. I think it's still there though.

Hawk

Small, shadowy falcon-like being. One of my newer runalongs.

Flies between telephone poles (?), signs and other objects

Appears a LOT

Moth

Literally just the moth enemy from Worldless. I'm not joking

Behaves similarly to the Hawk, but also ducks underneath signs and such.

The most recent runalong I have, only "forming" a few days ago

Slime Science: Runalongs

Have you ever looked off to the side while moving quickly and noticed some kind of creature following at the same pace? Then you've managed to find a Runalong!

Runalongs are very fluid in appearance, their features shift a lot in a manner similar to certain Beings. However, they do have certain aspects that remain constant.

They are very tall, about eye-level with an adult male human riding a fully grown horse (Their exact height can vary wildly, but this is a good average)

They move on at least 4 legs, often more.

They are covered in either fur or feathers on their main body. This appears to only be different between individual Runalongs, as I've never seen them switch.

They are pitch black, and light seems to have a prismatic effect when reflected off their fur/feathers.

They have wings, and can fly with them.

They appear to be vaguely cat-like in body structure, but their ears and tail change to different species often.

Runalongs are rather peaceful, as they tend to stick to a distance unless called. (I found a melody they seem to like) Their fur/feathers are very soft.

They appear to be rather protective of their young, but will let you interact with them if they trust you. (I'm fairly certain I might of been adopted by one, seeing as it keeps following me.)

I suspect they either have a connection to displacer beasts or Barrier (Confirmed, there's a Being ) as they have the ability to slip in and out of reality as they please. They tend to only follow for the duration of a trip and vanish when the travel is over.

All in all, Runalongs are very pleasant creatures. They simply want to move with others.
