This biggest problem with Victor was that half the time she couldn’t tell if he was joking, or completely serious. Was this a result of him being a foreigner fascinated with Japanese culture, or some elaborate ruse for publicity?

“You are here to give her lessons on ice skating and to keep her entertained for thirty minutes, not to lecture me,” Azure said. Her voice vibrated with emotion. She was angry. Victor was making her angry.
Instead of being monotone, she was wearing her emotions on her sleeve. How dare he say those things to her. She was an amazing older sister. She’d taken care of over a dozen of her siblings. She knew how to take care of Hapi.
“You don’t know anything. Hapi come here,” she said, snapping her fingers. “We’re leaving.”
Of course, upon hearing those words the toddler began to cry, again.
