The Ginger Binger wins contest

Top photo: Caylan “The Ginger Binger” Dowden, left, and Damon “The Destroyer” Serginet, right, gobble peach cobbler during the Louisiana Peach Festival’s first Cobbler Gobbler contest on Saturday. Participants attempted to eat two pounds of professionally baked cobbler in five minutes.

Dowden, middle photo, raises his hands in victory after eating all of his cobbler in less than the allotted time. He won $1,000 and the official Cobbler Gobbler championship belt. The contest was sponsored by Hampton Inn in Ruston.

Bottom photo: Dylan Scott, a country singer from Bastrop, performs at Railroad Park to finish off the festival Saturday evening. Scott sang before a crowd of more than 500 festival goers. Other festival entertainers included Louisiana Swamp Donky, KATALYST and Zack O’Neil.

ART TALK: Production brings magic to Dixie stage

The magic of Disney is coming to Ruston in RCT’s next production “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” Sponsored by the Ruston Kiwanis Club and directed by Steele Moegle, the show  will run Tuesday through Wednesday at the Dixie Center for the Arts...

There will be two evening shows at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. Tuesday and a 2 p.m. matinee on Wednesday. Tickets for these special performances are $5 per person and are available at the Dixie box office and online at http://mkt.com/rctruston

The Cobbler Gobbler is looking for challengers. [...] The contest is set for 7 p.m. June 25 at Railroad Park. Contestants will attempt to eat two pounds of professionally baked cobbler in five minutes. Whoever eats the most will take home $1,000 and the official Cobbler Gobbler championship belt, event coordinator Brandon Sutherland said.

Musician Rick Kelley will perform at 2 p.m. Friday at the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center. Hailing from Michigan, Kelley focuses on the importance of reading and invites all local children and their families to attend the performance.

Elizabeth Vidos, also known as Lady Chops, will perform at the Lincoln Parish Library at 6 p.m. today for all ages; 10 a.m. Wednesday for children and at 4 p.m. Wednesday for teens.

She does all kinds of percussion patterns with anything but drums. She will be involving the crowd, and it will be fully participatory. She will call on different people to help her do different things during the show.
