It's probably for the best they believe the kids didn't get out cause Winter would just have to try to arrest them again if she saw them.

Pfft, I guess this is why they made sure to show us that Tyrian and Mercury left for Vacuo. We know the only people who were in the whale were Salem, Hazel and Oscar.
Salem for sure survived that. Oscar did too, he's a main character and also I'm pretty sure the cause of the explosion. It's a toss up on whether Hazel survived, but his survival chances weren't very good right before the explosion, so I'll go out on a limb and say that he's dead.
Hm. Hazel said that the longest Salem was "gone" for was a few hours before she put herself back together.
I'm assuming Oscar blew them up so they'd have a good few hours were she wouldn't be able to chase after them. She might not be able to find them after that, even, since she used the hound to hunt Oscar down before, and that thing is gone now.
Unless she has another hound, and wouldn't that be unfortunate.
