Yeah, I can certainly see how it could have some parallels to Salem. Though given just how removed the context of Checkmate is from anything related to Salem, I wouldn’t really call it ‘worrying fittingness’.
Rather, I think if there are meant to be any kind of parallels here, they are actually going to be through Ruby’s parallels to Salem. And maybe even any hypothetical friends and companions Salem may have had that parallel Weiss, Blake and Yang.
Like when we inevitably get the ‘once more, with clarity’ look at what Salem’s pre-devastation background was REALLY like, I wouldn’t be surprised if it involved a scene/montage of Salem and potentially her friends/companions heroically kicking ass accompanied by a big, bombastic ‘I’m the biggest, baddest-ass there is, now deal with it’ song much like Big Metal Shoe, War and Checkmate to really illustrate the true similarities.
